Westbound Route 30 Closed as Crews Tackle Vehicle Fire in Caln

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — On Thursday night, a vehicle fire on the Route 30 Bypass in Caln Township led to the closure of all westbound lanes near Wallace Avenue. Fire Police initially closed lanes to control the flames visible from the vehicle, which obstructed the left lane. Emergency services arrived to check the driver for smoke inhalation, and crews declared the fire under control by 9:07 p.m. Though the right lane reopened around 9:24 p.m., traffic delays continued as responders worked to clear the scene. By 9:34 p.m., fire units had left, with Pennsylvania State Police managing remaining traffic flow. IrishEyez Chesco shared the timeline as crews quickly responded to maintain the blaze.

Former Officer Sentenced to House Arrest After Firing at Motorist in Chester County

West Caln Sgt. Anthony Sparano

WEST CHESTER, PA — A former Chester County officer was sentenced to probation and house arrest instead of prison after firing at a motorist who fled a traffic stop in 2021. Judge Allison Bell Royer’s decision followed arguments from both the defense and prosecution, with the defense asserting that the officer acted under provocation and had no criminal history. Prosecutors argued for a prison sentence, pointing to the risks posed by his actions and his lack of remorse. Though the judge imposed probation, including electronic home monitoring, the case highlights ongoing debates over accountability for law enforcement officers.

Uwchlan Residents Approve Open Space Tax

UWCHLAN TWP - Uwchlan Township residents have voted in favor of an Open Space Tax that will increase the Earned Income Tax by 0.25%, effective January 1, 2025. This tax adjustment, expected to raise $2.5 million to $3 million annually, will support the acquisition and conservation of open spaces and the upkeep of existing lands within the township. Retirees and unemployed residents will be exempt from the tax, with certification of the results anticipated by November 25, 2024. Township officials view this measure as a step toward balancing community growth with preserving local green spaces.
