Chester County Balloon Festival Soars into Father’s Day Weekend
KENNETT SQUARE, PA — This weekend marks the 16th Annual Chester County Hot Air Balloon Festival, a highly anticipated event coinciding with Father’s Day. Families can enjoy a variety of attractions, including the mesmerizing sight of hot air balloons taking to the skies and glowing in the evening. Juneteenth Celebration Features Jazz Performance by Ruth Naomi Floyd
KENNETT SQUARE, PA — On June 21, 2024, Voices Underground will commemorate Juneteenth with "Frederick Douglass Jazz Works," a performance by Ruth Naomi Floyd at the Open Air Theatre. The event will feature Floyd's original jazz compositions and the powerful words of Frederick Douglass. Attendees can choose between $32 tickets or $60 tickets, which include a reception. All tickets offer all-day Gardens admission.
Floyd, a renowned vocalist and composer, has been a key figure in vocal jazz, blending themes of theology and justice. Her work has earned acclaim for its progressive jazz sound and messages of hope and love. Voices Underground seeks to raise awareness of the Underground Railroad's history and promote healing through confronting the truths of American racial history. More info here
West Pikeland Township Hosts Sustainable Saturdays Event Series
CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — West Pikeland Township's Environmental Advisory Council is hosting Sustainable Saturdays from April to September 2024. The series includes talks and home demonstrations on sustainable systems. On June 22, a session on geothermal heat pump installation will start at 10:30 a.m. at the Chester Springs Library, followed by a visit to a local home. More info
Sinkhole Forces Complete Closure of Spring Hollow Road
EAST PIKELAND TWP — A large sinkhole has led to the closure of Spring Hollow Road just past Spring Lane, effective June 10, 2024. The township decided to completely close the road due to ongoing deterioration, posting signs and barricades to guide traffic. Residents below Spring Lane must access their homes from Spring City Road, while those above can use Route 724. The township is working on a resolution.
Join Valley Forge Audubon Society for Birding at Springton Manor
GLENMOORE, PA — Join the Valley Forge Audubon Society volunteers on June 15 at 8 a.m. for the Chester County Parks Birding Series at Springton Manor Farm. Open to all experience levels, the event includes a two-mile walk on natural trails, lasting 2-3 hours. Binoculars are recommended but not necessary. More info here
