University of the Arts in Philadelphia to Suddenly Close Amid Financial Struggles

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The University of the Arts, a Philadelphia institution with over 150 years of history, will close on June 7 due to financial instability. The announcement, made by President Kerry Walk and Board Chair Judson Aaron, cited declining enrollments and increasing expenses as key factors. The university, which offers programs in various arts disciplines, will cancel summer courses and not enroll new students for the fall. Efforts to assist current students with transferring to other institutions are underway. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education withdrew the school’s accreditation before the university could inform its community. The closure will affect nearly 700 faculty and staff members, with the student body already reduced significantly from previous years.

Nighttime Road Closure Set for Upper Pine Creek and Davis Road


WEST PIKELAND TWP — West Pikeland Township has announced a road closure at the intersection of Upper Pine Creek and Davis Road on June 4 and 5, 2024. The closure will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night to allow for the maneuvering of heavy equipment necessary for the construction of the turnpike overpass. Residents and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes during these times to avoid delays.

Nighttime Resurfacing to Cause Lane Closures in Caln Twp


CALN TWP — PennDOT will conduct nighttime resurfacing in Chester County from June 2 through June 6, causing lane closures on several roads, including Caln Road/Reeceville Road and Creek Road. Motorists should expect delays and plan for extra travel time. The work schedule is weather-dependent

Paradise Farm Camps to Host 2024 Trail Blazer Run on Thursday


EAST BRADFORD, PA — The 2024 Trail Blazer Run is set for June 6 at Paradise Farm Camps, featuring its traditional 5-mile run, a 1.5-mile walk/fun run, and a new 5K run. Registration is currently open, and sponsorship opportunities are available. The event, which has been a staple of East Bradford Township since 2012, attracts over 300 participants annually. Proceeds support the maintenance and development of the township's extensive trail system, spanning over 19 miles and 24 properties. Upper Uwchlan Township Hosts Second Summer Concert on June 9


UPPER UWCHLAN TWP — Upper Uwchlan Township will host the second concert of its Live Music Summer Series on Sunday, June 9, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Upland Farm Park. The event will feature The Moondawgs, performing a blend of folk-rock and blues starting at 5 p.m. Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs or blankets for a comfortable evening of live music. Epicurean Garage will provide food and beverages for purchase starting at 4:30 p.m.
