High-Level Drug Dealer Sentenced to Up to 69 Years in Prison
Samuel Carr of Quarryville, Lancaster County
WEST CHESTER, PA — Samuel Carr, from Quarryville, Lancaster County, has been sentenced to 34.5 to 69 years in state prison for his involvement in a significant methamphetamine trafficking ring in Chester County. The drug ring, led by Richard Maitre, was dismantled in 2017 after the arrests of 49 individuals. Carr's role as a runner, sub-dealer, and debt collector, along with his violent criminal history, contributed to his severe sentence. The operation, uncovered through extensive undercover work and wiretaps, revealed the sophisticated methods used to distribute drugs. The raid resulted in the seizure of numerous illegal items, and key figures, including Carr and Maitre, were eventually apprehended.

Chester County Intermediate Unit Secures $407,680 in Federal Grants
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) has been awarded $407,680 in federal grants from the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program. This funding will support the continuation of before- and after-school programs at Avon Grove and Oxford schools, benefiting students from underserved communities. The grants will fund STEM education, literacy, physical fitness, and youth development programs at the middle schools, as well as college and career preparatory programs at the high schools. These initiatives provide a safe and supportive environment for students to enhance their skills outside regular school hours. The CCIU will collaborate with local districts to implement these programs for the 2024-25 school year.
