Couple Endures Hours-Long Ordeal During Armed Home Invasion

COATESVILLE, PA — In Coatesville, a couple was held at gunpoint for two and a half hours during a home invasion early Tuesday morning. The suspect, George Parks, allegedly broke into their home, assaulted them, and stole cash and a firearm. Parks was arrested the following day and faces multiple charges.

After a prolonged ordeal, Parks fled with cash and the victims' firearm. He was apprehended early Wednesday morning at his residence on Lincoln Highway, where police recovered the stolen firearm and other items. Parks, a convicted felon, has been charged with robbery, kidnapping, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and unlawful restraint, with bail set at $750,000.

Kennett Square to Host Bilingual Memorial Day Parade and Tribute Events

KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Kennett Square will host Chester County’s largest Memorial Day Parade on May 27. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and will feature bilingual announcements. The day includes tribute ceremonies, lunches for veterans, and a memorial ceremony. Free parking and shuttle services are available.

Chester County Awards $6.7 Million for Open Space Preservation and Park Improvements

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — The Chester County Commissioners have announced the awarding of nearly $6.7 million in grants aimed at preserving open space and improving parks throughout the county. These grants, provided through the County's Preservation Partnership Program, support municipalities and non-profit land preservation organizations in their efforts to maintain and enhance natural areas. The program has successfully preserved over 65,000 acres of farmland, open space, nature preserves, and parks across all 73 municipalities in Chester County. Residents can access a detailed list of the grant allocations online.

West Chester University Honored for Environmental Excellence with Governor’s Award

WEST CHESTER, PA — WCU has been honored with a Governor’s Award for Environmental Excellence for its event celebrating 50 years of the Robert B. Gordon Natural Area for Environmental Education. The awards ceremony, held in Harrisburg, recognized the university's innovative approach to environmental protection.

The Fall 2023 Forest Festival attracted over 200 participants, highlighting the university’s commitment to preserving the Gordon Natural Area (GNA). The event celebrated the contributions of those who have supported the GNA and emphasized ongoing preservation efforts. The festival included the unveiling of educational signage developed with the Delaware Tribe of Indians, showcasing a growing partnership with indigenous communities.

The Governor’s Awards, presented by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, recognized 22 projects statewide based on criteria such as environmental protection, innovation, and sustainability. WCU’s Director of Sustainability, Brad Flamm, and GNA Stewardship Manager, Nur Ritter, represented the university at the ceremony.

WEST CHESTER, PA — The upcoming Netflix comedy "Tires," co-created by Pennsylvania comedian Shane Gillis, has piqued local interest with scenes appearing to be filmed in West Chester. Although set in Valley Forge, the trailer reveals familiar West Chester landmarks such as Tires Plus on Gay Street, Parkway Cleaners, Dunkin’ Donuts, and a local car wash. Reddit users noted that Gillis was seen in town several months ago working on the project.
