WEST CHESTER, PA — The trial of four Coatesville men accused of a violent kidnapping and ransom scheme has been postponed. The suspects, arrested in February 2023, face numerous charges, including kidnapping, aggravated assault, and robbery. The delay comes after two of the men pleaded guilty and were sentenced to state prison. The charges originate from an incident where the victim was ambushed, assaulted, and held at gunpoint while his captors demanded money and drugs from his girlfriend. The trial for the remaining defendants is now set for August 26.

Chester County Implements Advanced Ballistics Technology for Faster Crime Solving

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Chester County’s District Attorney’s Office and Detectives have implemented Ballistics Tank technology to improve the speed and accuracy of firearm identification in criminal investigations. Funded by a Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency grant, this new equipment allows firearms examiners to test-fire guns and analyze ballistic evidence almost immediately, a process that previously took six to twelve months. The Ballistics Tank works by capturing bullets fired into a water tank, preserving them for detailed analysis and entry into the National Integrated Ballistics Information Network (NIBIN). This advancement, along with recent investments in rapid DNA technology, reflects Chester County’s commitment to utilizing the latest forensic tools to combat crime.

Shakespeare Festival Returns with Student Performances

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Shakespeare Festival, now in its 37th year, is set to bring together around 300 students from local elementary, middle, and high schools on May 22, 2024, at the Madeleine Wing Adler Theatre at West Chester University. This educational and entertaining event allows students to perform 20-minute adaptations of Shakespearean plays, maintaining the essence of the originals. The festival, integral to the language arts curriculum, is designed to nurture a passion for Shakespeare and theater among students. Professional actors, or "Masters of Revelry," enhance the experience by sharing knowledge about Shakespeare’s life and works. While the festival is not a competition, it does present awards for outstanding performances. The festival will be held with at least six participating schools, ensuring a valuable educational experience.
