WEST CHESTER — A proposed affordable housing project at the West Chester Growers Market lot faced staunch opposition from residents and officials during a recent borough council meeting. Despite acknowledging the need for affordable housing, concerns over the proposed location and timing led to the project being tabled.

In its most ambitious form, the proposed five-story building sought to introduce 102 new housing units, alongside parking facilities and street-level retail space. Pennrose, in a presentation to the borough's Smart Growth Committee, underscored the acute demand for affordable housing to accommodate essential workers grappling with the region's escalating housing costs.
