Water Main Break in Caln Township Spurs Emergency Repairs and Temporary Loss of Water for Residents
Emergency repairs due to a main break in Caln Township by Pennsylvania American Water are expected to last nine hours, causing potential disruptions like discolored water and low pressure. Residents are advised to run cold water taps for 3 to 5 minutes post-repair. Landlords are urged to inform tenants. Safety precautions advise against approaching working crews.
Community Response Overwhelming as Red Cross Aids Displaced Residents in Kennett Square
As a fire burned through a 12-unit apartment building in Kennett Square late Tuesday evening, 55 people were evacuated and would have been left temporarily homeless but not for the quick actions of the community around them. At the request of and working with the KSQ police, the Garage Community and Youth Center was able to play a vital role in caring for the displaced families as the staff, including the Site Supervisor and one board member, spent the night providing transportation and accommodations until the Red Cross could open a shelter at Kennett High School and eventually Kennett Area Community Services could provide hotel rooms for those who couldnโt go back.
Detours Advised: I-76 Shutters for Manor Road Bridge Upgrades
A segment of Interstate 76 is slated for closure between Morgantown and Downingtown interchanges early Sunday, Dec. 17, from 12:01 a.m. to 6 a.m. The closure facilitates the installation of an overhead bridge beam near Mile Marker 301 in Wallace Township, Chester County. Detours are advised for eastbound and westbound drivers during this period.
Ongoing Upgrades at Chester County Prison Address Security Concerns
Chester County Prison initiates security upgrades post-Cavalcante escape, including additional razor wire, roofline fencing, and outdoor surveillance. Future plans involve new prison attire, fine mesh, anti-climb fencing, security cameras, geo-tracking monitors, and potential K-9 Officer partnership. Despite ongoing improvements, staffing shortages remain a challenge, with 70 vacancies out of 302 positions.
Fetterman Rejects Accusations: 'Not a Progressive,' Sparks Debate Among Supporters
U.S. Senator John Fetterman, previously recognized for progressive stances, clarifies his identity as a Democrat committed to choice. He addresses criticism from supporters regarding his positions on Israel and immigration, asserting the need for effective border control. Fetterman's recent stance appears to align with some Republicans, while his chief of staff emphasizes his consistent policies. Despite facing backlash, elected Democrats, including Senator Bob Casey, continue to support Fetterman.
Pennsylvania Senate Unanimously Passes Kayden's Law for Child Custody Reform
The Pennsylvania Senate unanimously passed Kayden's Law, a groundbreaking child custody reform bill named after seven-year-old Kayden Mancuso. The bipartisan legislation, sponsored by Senators Santarsiero and Baker, aims to prioritize child safety in custody cases through comprehensive amendments to state statutes. The law introduces strengthened factors for judges, safety conditions in custody orders, and an annual education program on child abuse and domestic violence for court personnel. The bill now moves to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives for consideration.
Chester County's Financial Stability Enhanced by Collaborative VITA Program
Life Transforming Ministries (LTM), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, has been actively participating in the IRS's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program since 2004. Functioning within this program, LTM engages and trains volunteers who, driven by a commitment to community service, provide free tax preparation services. The volunteers, having passed the IRS examination, utilize approved software for tax return preparation. This initiative operates in collaboration with Chester County's Financial Stability Partnership, a group led by United Way and comprising over 20 organizations, aiming to enhance financial stability through educational classes and programs.
