Westtown Board Ousts Entire Historical Commission
WESTTOWN, PA — Westtown Township supervisors voted unanimously Monday to dismiss the entire Historical Commission, despite strong pushback from residents and preservationists. Officials declined to give specific reasons, citing personnel confidentiality, though they said the commission's relationship with the board had broken down. The move comes amid disputes over the planned sale of the historic Darlington Inn and a Sunshine Law concern involving commission members attending a preservation dinner. Uwchlan Township Names First Healthy Yard Award Recipients

UWCHLAN TWP — Uwchlan Township's Environmental Advisory Council has recognized its first group of residents under a new initiative rewarding wildlife-friendly landscaping. David Mann, Ruth Osborn and Janet Wall each received a Healthy Yard sign for cultivating yards that support pollinators, birds and other local wildlife.
The Healthy Yard Recognition Program encourages homeowners to adopt landscaping approaches that benefit native species and local ecosystems. Residents interested in participating can complete a short online survey to see how their own yards measure up and receive suggestions for making them more wildlife-friendly. Those who meet the program's benchmarks can qualify for their own sign, joining the township's first honorees. Read more about the program here
Marsh Creek State Park Sets Boater Safety Day for Sunday
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Marsh Creek State Park is hosting a Boater Safety Day this Sunday, July 26, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with checkpoints set up at both the east and west boat launches on Marsh Creek Lake. Park rangers will be on hand throughout the day to perform safety checks and answer boaters' questions.
The event will feature live demonstrations held every hour, including a T-boat rescue technique using a kayak, guidance on fitting a personal flotation device while in the water, instructions for flipping over an overturned kayak or paddleboard, and techniques for re-entering a kayak or paddleboard from the water.
Organizers are using the event to reinforce the state's boating safety requirements, which mandate that all vessels carry a U.S. Coast Guard–approved PFD, a sound-signaling device, and a valid launch permit.
Caln Township to Host Portrait Photography Class
CALN TWP — Caln Township Parks & Recreation is continuing its Art in the Park series with a portrait photography class scheduled for Saturday, August 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Caln Meadow Park. Instructor Drew Tolbert, who has led previous sessions in the series, will teach participants the basics of portrait photography, including composition and lighting techniques, before giving them hands-on practice time using the park as a backdrop during golden hour.
The class welcomes photographers using any type of camera, from smartphones to film equipment, and is designed primarily for adults and older teens; minors attending must be accompanied by an adult. Tickets are priced at $15 and can be purchased in advance through the township's online ticketing system.
