Downingtown Interchange Reopens After Toll-Booth Canopy Collapse

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown Interchange on the Pennsylvania Turnpike reopened following a temporary closure caused by the collapse of a toll-booth canopy during planned demolition work. Crews had been performing preliminary tasks ahead of a scheduled full weekend closure when the canopy's support columns destabilized, prompting officials to shut down the interchange as a safety measure. The canopy then fell onto the toll booths, though no injuries were reported.

The demolition is part of a larger reconfiguration of the toll plaza connected to the Turnpike's broader transition to open road tolling, which allows drivers to be charged electronically without stopping or slowing down. Several lanes at the Downingtown Exit had already been closed in recent weeks as part of the project, and the Turnpike recently celebrated one year of operating under the new tolling system.

Coatesville's New Assistant Superintendent Brings Local Roots and Classroom Experience

Assistant Superintendent, Leah Reider

COATESVILLE, PA — Leah Reider, who began her tenure as Assistant Superintendent of the Coatesville Area School District six months ago, brings both deep local roots and extensive classroom experience to the role. A graduate of Coatesville Area Senior High School and the daughter of a longtime district teacher, Reider holds a doctorate from Drexel University and degrees in special education from Pennsylvania State University. She spent nine years teaching special education before transitioning into administration.

In her new position, Reider has prioritized a redesign of the middle school schedule, the expansion of safety and security measures, and the introduction of vertical teaching teams that connect educators across grade levels. She has also taken an active role in the Choose Coatesville initiative, which seeks to bring students back from charter schools and ease pressure on local taxpayers. Other priorities include strengthening multi-tiered systems of support and overseeing newer programs such as the Succeed-by-Three Task Force and Kindergarten Jump Start.
