PHILADELPHIA, PA — Shane Gillis, who studied history at West Chester University before becoming a nationally known comedian, set two Guinness World Records during a show at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on July 17. According to the stadium, Gillis sold 77,047 tickets, the most ever for a solo comedy show, and performed in front of 73,946 attendees, the largest audience ever recorded for a stand-up comedian. The event featured a notable roster of guests, including former Eagles center Jason Kelce, comedian Dave Chappelle, and rapper Meek Mill. Though originally from Mechanicsburg, Gillis's West Chester roots have made the record-breaking show a point of regional pride.

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Chester County prosecutors have charged Debra Dora, 60, of West Chester, with attempted murder following a shooting on the 200 block of Chestnut Street in Downingtown. Police responding to a report of gunfire found Dora still armed and took her into custody without further incident. The victim suffered a gunshot wound that was not life-threatening. Dora was arraigned before Judge John Hipple and is being held at Chester County Prison after failing to post $750,000 bail; she is presumed innocent until proven guilty. Authorities described the shooting as stemming from a personal dispute and said there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community.

TREDYFFRIN, PA — Investigators are looking into a home invasion that took place around 5 a.m. Friday at the Tredyffrin Township home of Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, the Chester County District Attorney's Office confirmed. The Barkley family was not injured during the incident, officials said, though further details about the break-in have not been disclosed. Chester County detectives are assisting Tredyffrin Township police in the investigation, and authorities are asking nearby residents to check home security cameras for any suspicious activity around the time of the incident. Anyone with information or video footage is asked to contact the Tredyffrin Township Police Department at 610-644-3221. The case remains under active investigation, with no arrests reported so far.

WESTTOWN, PA — A dispute between Westtown Township supervisors and its volunteer historical commission has escalated to the point where officials plan to vote next week to remove all six commission members. The conflict centers on the Darlington Inn, a 19th-century structure on a two-acre parcel that was acquired in 2024 alongside the larger 206-acre Crebilly Farm to block residential development. While the community largely believed the inn would be preserved along with the rest of the property, the township has instead treated it as a separate asset it intends to eventually sell to recoup $200,000 in public funds. Commission members, who began advocating publicly for the inn's preservation and exploring private funding options, say their efforts drew growing community attention to the issue, including higher turnout at township meetings. That advocacy, according to some commission members, came to be seen by supervisors as overstepping, particularly after the board rezoned the property for commercial use and declined the commission's request for preservation easements that would protect the building's facade. Commission members received notice this week that their appointments would be up for a removal vote, and their scheduled meeting was canceled; they were told they could reapply for their seats. Formed in 2013, the commission has run community history events, published a township history book, and hosted lectures, operating as an advisory body appointed by the board of supervisors.
