West Chester's East Side Clinches Little League World Series Berth

WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester's East Side Little League clinched a berth in the Little League World Series on Friday night, defeating Naamans Little League of Wilmington, Delaware, 3-1 in the Mid-Atlantic Regional final. Pitcher Cole Warner was central to the win, striking out eight batters over the course of the close, defensively driven game. This is following another local team, the Glenmoore Eagle Little League’s win last year.

News of East Side's win drew crowds to local gathering spots in West Chester, reflecting the community's excitement over a rare, and relatively close-to-home, trip to the sport's biggest youth stage. Williamsport sits about three hours from West Chester, a fact residents say makes the achievement feel especially personal. As of Friday night, Little League officials had not announced East Side's first opponent, game time, or any plans for a community send-off ahead of the tournament.

West Bradford Township Launches Self-Guided Birding Program for Local Parks

WEST BRADFORD TWP — West Bradford Township has introduced Birding in the Parks, a new environmental education initiative aimed at making birdwatching approachable for park visitors with little or no prior experience. The program centers on self-guided identification guidebooks covering the township's three most popular parks and preserves: Shadyside Park, Broad Run Park and Brandywine Meadows Preserve.

The guides were developed by Libby Boulanger, the township's seasonal GIS and environmental specialist, who brings a background in wildlife biology and geography to the project. Rather than presenting detailed scientific data, each bird entry pairs a brief description with a single memorable fact, an approach designed to help casual visitors start recognizing species they encounter. Boulanger compiled the guides by walking each park's paved trails over several visits, deliberately limiting her documentation to what a typical parkgoer would see and hear rather than conducting an exhaustive survey.

Digital PDF versions of the guidebooks are currently posted on the township's website, and printed copies will be distributed later this year at the West Bradford Township Building. The initiative will also include new interpretive signs at each of the three parks, describing local bird habitats and listing associated species, with QR codes linking visitors to the corresponding digital guidebook.

Westbound Turnpike Lanes Closing Sunday for Bridge Repairs

UWCHLAN TWP — Drivers planning to use the Pennsylvania Turnpike early Sunday morning should expect a detour, as westbound lanes between the Downingtown and Morgantown interchanges close for bridge construction. The closure, spanning Exit 312 to Exit 298, will run from midnight until 5 a.m. to accommodate work near milepost 304.4.

Eastbound lanes will remain fully open throughout the closure period, with only westbound traffic affected. Motorists heading westbound will exit at Downingtown and follow a marked detour: Route 100 north for nine miles, Route 23 west for 12.4 miles, and Route 10 north for one mile, before reentering the turnpike at the Morgantown interchange.

Coyotes, Bears and Foxes Take Center Stage at Springton Manor Program

GLENMOORE, PA — Chester County Parks is hosting an interactive educational program exploring the mammal species native to Pennsylvania's parks and natural areas. "Wild Mammals of Pennsylvania Parks" will take place Saturday, August 29, from 11 a.m. to noon at Springton Manor Farm.

The presentation will introduce participants to animals such as coyotes, black bears and foxes, examining how these species adapt to survive in their habitats and offering practical guidance for residents on safely sharing outdoor spaces with local wildlife. The program is designed to appeal to families and nature enthusiasts alike. Advance registration is required and can be completed through the Chester County Parks website.
