Volunteers Clear 30 Bags of Trash From Roads Near Marshallton

WEST BRADFORD TWP — West Bradford’s roadsides are a little cleaner this week after a volunteer cleanup on Saturday, Oct. 17. Ten people working under the township’s West Bradford Litter Lifters banner gathered roughly 30 bags of trash, concentrating on Northbrook Road and several other roads south of the Village of Marshallton.

The group brought together members of the Friends of Martins Tavern, students from the C.A.M.O. group at the Downingtown STEM Academy, and other township residents. In a post on its website Monday, the township thanked the volunteers, crediting them with restoring the area’s appearance and calling volunteerism the backbone of the community.

WCU Ranked Among Philadelphia Region’s Most Community-Minded Employers

WEST CHESTER UNIVERSITY — For the fifth consecutive year, West Chester University has earned a place on the Civic 50 Greater Philadelphia, an annual list of the region’s most community-minded employers. The recognition comes from the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Philadelphia, working with the national nonprofit Points of Light, lead partner the Philadelphia Foundation and other local groups.

Organizations across the 11-county region are judged on how much they invest in community work, how deeply it is woven into their operations, whether it is supported by formal policies, and how they measure results. WCU finished in the top 20 percent of large employers for integrating community engagement into its culture, and its overall score was also in the top 20 percent.

Road Patching Scheduled for Barley Sheaf Road in Caln Township

CALN TWP — Caln Township’s Public Works Department is patching Barley Sheaf Road on Tuesday, Oct. 20, with crews working from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The township says the road will not be closed; flaggers will be stationed in the work zone to keep traffic moving in both directions. Drivers who use Barley Sheaf Road during the day should expect short delays and may want to leave a little early or choose another route.

Volunteers Sought to Clear Invasive Plants From Broad Run Park

WEST BRADFORD TWP — West Bradford Township is looking for volunteers to help remove invasive vegetation from Broad Run Park on Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon. Hosted by the township’s Land Preservation Committee, the event is free and open to all ages, and participants should come prepared with gloves, boots, work clothes and gardening tools. Advance registration is available on the township’s website.

The cleanup is part of a wider push to get residents involved in caring for local parks. Beyond invasive plant removal, the township is recruiting volunteers for its Litter Lifters roadside cleanup group, tree plantings and planning for summer movie nights and community festivals. Residents can sign up through the township’s volunteer application or reach out to Joseph Antonelli at [email protected].
