Two Days of Road Closures Planned in Chester County to Honor State Trooper Killed in the Line of Duty
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Pennsylvania State Police have announced a series of road closures and traffic disruptions in Chester County this week as the region prepares to lay to rest Corporal Timothy J. O'Connor, Jr., who died in the line of duty on March 8, 2026.
Funeral services are set for two days. On Tuesday, March 17, closures will begin at 2:00 p.m. to allow for an escort procession to St. Joseph Parish in Downingtown. Affected roads include North Church Street at West Biddle Street in West Chester Borough, as well as Manor Ave. near the parish. North Church Street, in front of the funeral home, will close approximately two hours before the procession departs and will reopen once it passes.
Wednesday, March 18, will see significantly broader and longer-lasting closures. Manor Ave. between Rock Raymond Road and East Pennsylvania Avenue will be closed from 6:00 a.m. until approximately 3:00 p.m. Route 30 bypass ramps onto Manor Ave. will close around 11:00 a.m., and additional closures on Manor Road and rolling closures along Horseshoe Pike are expected beginning around 1:00 p.m.
State police are asking area residents, businesses, local school districts, and emergency response agencies to adjust their schedules and routes in anticipation of heavy traffic and delays throughout both days. The department expressed appreciation for the public's patience as Chester County comes together to honor a fallen officer.
30 Bypass Lane Closure in Chester County to Cause Delays Starting Monday
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — PennDOT has announced a lane closure on westbound U.S. Route 30 along the Coatesville Downingtown Bypass in Chester County, set to begin Monday, March 16, and run through Wednesday, March 18. The closure, in place between Airport Road and Business U.S. 30 from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day, is part of a $9.3 million infrastructure project designed to improve safety and extend the useful life of the bypass corridor.
The project covers the western section of the bypass through the City of Coatesville and four surrounding townships — Caln, Sadsbury, Valley, and West Caln. Work includes milling, base repairs, bituminous overlay, rumble strip reinstallation, and pavement remarking.
Nearly 200 Join Downingtown's Annual Snowball Shuffle, Raising More Than $29,000 for Local Youth

EAGLEVIEW TOWN CENTER — Communities That Care of Greater Downingtown marked the fifth anniversary of its annual Snowball Shuffle on March 7 with its strongest showing yet, drawing nearly 200 runners and walkers to Eagleview Town Center and raising more than $29,000 for youth and family programs in the Downingtown area.
The community 5K, officially timed by Run The Day, featured competition across age groups, with medals awarded to top finishers. Jacob Czubaroff led all male participants with a time of 20:58, while Brynnley Jefferis topped the women's field at 23:54. Team RDF Snowflakes was recognized as the event's top fundraising group, with 14 members collectively raising $780.
Beyond the race itself, the event drew energy from a robust lineup of community sponsors. West Pharmaceutical Services, Citadel Credit Union, and ACAC each backed post-race amenities, while Hankin Group provided the venue. Dozens of additional local businesses contributed sponsorships and raffle items, underscoring the broad community investment in the organization's mission.
