Shapiro Declares "LeBron James Day" as Star Signs With Sixers
PHILADELPHIA, PA — LeBron James announced Friday that he will sign with the Philadelphia 76ers for the upcoming NBA season, a move that instantly makes the team a contender and adds another chapter to one of the most decorated careers in league history. According to agent Rich Paul, James will play on a two-year deal worth about $8 million — just above the veteran minimum — signaling that a shot at another championship, rather than money, is driving the decision.

Firefighters Contain Blaze at Chester County Home
UPPER UWCHLAN TWP — A house fire broke out Friday afternoon in Upper Uwchlan Township, Chester County, prompting a significant firefighting response. The blaze was reported shortly before 4 p.m. at a home on Colts Meadow Run, and aerial coverage from SkyForce 10 showed dense smoke and substantial flames engulfing the structure as crews worked to contain it.
Firefighters ultimately succeeded in extinguishing the fire, though authorities have not yet disclosed the cause or confirmed whether any injuries occurred. In the aftermath, the American Red Cross stepped in to assist two families who were displaced from their home, providing support as they navigate the days ahead.
Downingtown Police Department Opens Recruitment for 2027
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown Police Department has announced an open recruitment drive for its 2027 officer class, aiming to attract a wide range of applicants from certified officers and police academy cadets to individuals interested in serving the community who have not yet completed police training. Notably, Act 120 certification is not a prerequisite to apply.
Salary offerings vary based on training and experience: candidates without Act 120 training will start at $83,990, while those who complete the certification can earn $90,450. Officers who arrive with both Act 120 training and prior experience are eligible for salaries ranging from $103,372 to $129,215.
The department is also highlighting a robust benefits package, including medical and vision insurance, paid time off, holiday pay, pension benefits, shift differential pay, and uniform allowances, in addition to overtime opportunities.

Ranger-Led Bug Camp Returns to Hibernia County Park Saturday
COATESVILLE, PA — Parks and Preservation is inviting families to join its Bug Camp for Kids program this Saturday, July 25, at Hibernia County Park, with a limited number of spots still available. The event, themed "Flowering Plants & Insects," runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and is geared toward children and their families looking for a hands-on outdoor experience.
Led by Park Ranger Rita, the program will include a half-mile, family-friendly walk through the park, along with a story time session, an insect hunting activity, and a pressed flower craft for kids to take home. The event is part of the county's ongoing series of parks programming aimed at engaging young people with nature.
