Downingtown Scout Interviews Chester County Commissioner For Her Merit Badge

WEST CHESTER, PA — Charlotte Heilman, an 11-year-old Scout from Uwchlan Township, visited Chester County Commissioner Eric Roe last Wednesday to conduct an interview for a citizenship and community merit badge. A member of Troop 1776 in West Brandywine, Charlotte has been Scouting since kindergarten and recently earned a welding badge despite being told the task wasn't for someone her age or gender. She hopes to become a lawyer and, in a few years, an Eagle Scout. Roe said. “I’ve never met a fifth grader with such a keen understanding of local government. Chester County Receives More Than $13 Million in New State Infrastructure Grants

WEST CHESTER, PA — Pennsylvania's Department of Community and Economic Development has awarded Chester County more than $13 million through two funding programs. Transportation grants totaling nearly $6.1 million will support 13 projects, including bridge and intersection work in Caln and East Caln townships. A separate water and sewer program contributed another $7.2 million across 26 projects, with funds going to Coatesville and Uwchlan Township, among others.

Valley Forge Wants Your Voice for the Nation's 250th Birthday

VALLEY FORGE, PA — The Valley Forge Park Alliance is seeking volunteer readers and choirs to participate in a July 4th commemoration of the nation's 250th birthday at Valley Forge National Historical Park. Readers will perform portions of the Declaration of Independence at the Maurice Stephens House, while choirs will provide a cappella performances at each of three scheduled time slots. Applications are due by March 18.

Chester County DA’s Office Releases Weekly Report

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County District Attorney's Office released its weekly update this week, highlighting a jury conviction in a child sex abuse case and a local detective's recognition for child advocacy work.

After a four-day trial before Judge Sarah Black, a jury found Shakur Austin, 28, of Philadelphia guilty on all charges, including involuntary deviate sexual assault and unlawful contact with minors. Austin had been working as a direct care staff member at the Devereux Campus in West Whiteland Township when he solicited sexual acts from a 14-year-old resident. The victim disclosed the abuse to another minor, prompting an internal investigation. Surveillance footage from the building corroborated the victim's account. Austin has yet to be sentenced.
