Replica Gun on School Bus Prompts Police Response in Downingtown

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Early Tuesday morning, a student was discovered with a realistic-looking plastic replica firearm aboard a school bus near Downingtown Middle School, setting off a coordinated response from multiple local law enforcement agencies and school district officials. Police were alerted at approximately 7:26 a.m., and officers quickly responded, removing the student from the bus and confiscating the item.

Investigators with the West Brandywine Police Department determined the student had brought the replica from home. The bus driver, upon being alerted to the potential weapon, pulled over and quietly notified school administration while telling students there was a mechanical problem with the bus. District officials later confirmed the item was a non-functioning plastic replica and that there was no apparent intent to cause harm.

The student was remanded to school officials, and both a disciplinary review and a police investigation remain ongoing. No charges have been announced. The district notified families in accordance with Pennsylvania Act 44 of 2025 and reminded parents that weapons and replicas of any kind are prohibited on school property and buses. All students were reported safe, and normal operations continued throughout the day.
