County Planning Commission Catalogs Transportation Priorities

WEST CHESTER, PA β€” Chester County's Planning Commission has identified 561 transportation projects totaling $4.59 billion in its 2025 Transportation Improvement Inventory. The comprehensive list, compiled from submissions by the county's 73 municipalities, includes proposed roadway, bridge, bicycle, pedestrian, freight, and transit improvements. While the inventory doesn't guarantee funding, it highlights the growing gap between transportation needs and available resources as the county experiences continued population and employment growth. The assessment will help guide regional transportation planning priorities.

Chester County's Voice for Nearly Two Decades Steps Down

WEST CHESTER, PA β€” Becky Brain is retiring as Chester County's communications director after 19 years of service. Brain, who revitalized the county's public information office in 2006, has witnessed dramatic changes in how local governments communicate with residents, shifting from traditional media coverage to direct engagement through social media and newsletters. County commissioners honored her contributions at a recent meeting, praising her professionalism, versatility, and dignified treatment of all constituents. Andrew Kreider will succeed her next week. In retirement, Brain plans to travel, volunteer, and spend time with family, including a soon-to-arrive granddaughter.

East Caln Township Changes Sewer Bill Payment Address

EAST CALN TWP β€” East Caln Township has changed how residents pay sewer bills, requiring all payments to be mailed or delivered to the township office at 110 Bell Tavern Road in Downingtown. The township no longer accepts payments at S&T Bank or through a post office box. A 24-hour drop box is available in the office vestibule, though cash deposits are discouraged. Residents using online banking must update their payment information with their financial institutions.

WCU Prepares Holiday Feast for 40 Safe Harbor Residents

WEST CHESTER, PA β€” About four dozen West Chester University students, faculty, and staff prepared a complete Thanksgiving dinner for 40 homeless shelter residents on Tuesday. Working in the university's food laboratory under Professor Jeanne Subach's direction, volunteers cooked turkeys, potatoes, stuffing, and traditional sides from scratch for Safe Harbor, Chester County's largest homeless shelter. The annual effort combines nutrition education with community service, allowing students to apply classroom learning while addressing food insecurity.
