Chester County Overdose Deaths Fall to Lowest Point in Nearly a Decade

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County reported 55 overdose deaths in 2025 — a 20 percent drop from 2024 and the county's lowest total in nearly a decade. Officials credit expanded harm reduction services, broader naloxone distribution, improved data sharing, and stronger coordination between health providers, law enforcement, and community organizations. County leaders say new prevention strategies are planned for 2026 as the effort to reduce fatalities continues.

Chester Springs Library to Open Seed Library with Community Swap on April 11

CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — Chester Springs' Henrietta Hankin Branch Library is launching a new Seed Library on April 11, with an opening day event running from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program will give community members a place to borrow seeds for the growing season — a model that has taken root at public libraries across the United States as an affordable, community-driven alternative to purchasing new seeds each year.

The opening day celebration will double as a seed swap, where attendees are invited to bring surplus seeds from their own gardens or collections to share with neighbors. The library will also accept new and saved seed donations to help build out its permanent inventory. Organizers noted that donations received ahead of the launch were fewer than anticipated, making community participation at the event especially important for getting the collection off to a strong start.

Strut Your Mutt Returns to Ludwig's Corner for a Day of Dogs and Community

GLENMOORE, PA — Chester County's dog-loving community has a new reason to get outside this spring. Strut Your Mutt, a free festival hosted by Dogtopia of Chester Springs and BarkHop Studio, will take over Ludwig's Corner Horse Show Grounds on April 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering a full afternoon of activities for dogs and the people who love them.

The event is benefitting the Dogtopia Foundation and is designed to feel like a genuine community celebration rather than a typical pet expo. Attendees can expect a dog-friendly egg hunt, agility courses, food trucks catering to both two- and four-legged guests, Spring Bunny photo opportunities, and the chance to meet adoptable dogs from local rescue organizations.

Pre-registration is free, quick, and encouraged — organizers say it helps ensure a safe environment for all guests. Those who register ahead of time will be entered into a giveaway featuring a week of doggie daycare and a professional dog portrait session. Walk-ins are also welcome. All dogs must be leashed and current on rabies vaccination per Pennsylvania guidelines.

Ranger-Led Hike at Hibernia County Park Teaches Dogs and Their Owners Trail Manners

COATESVILLE, PA — Dog owners looking to make their trail outings a little more intentional this spring have a new option in Chester County. On April 11, Ranger Wolf will lead a B.A.R.K. Ranger program at Hibernia County Park, running from 1 to 2 p.m. and covering one easy mile through the park's grounds.

The program is designed to help dogs and their owners develop good habits on shared trails — addressing etiquette, responsible pet care, and environmental stewardship in a hands-on, outdoor setting. It is open to participants of all ages and draws on a model popularized by the National Park Service's ranger-led education programs, adapted here for the local park system and its canine visitors.

The hike begins at the Hibernia County Park Mansion and wraps up with a small but meaningful reward: each dog completing the program receives an official B.A.R.K. Ranger badge. Organizers ask that participants register ahead of time and emphasize that the group format is best suited for dogs that are at ease around other animals.
