Nightly Restrictions Coming to Rt 30 Bypass Through Friday
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — PennDOT is resuming overnight lane restrictions on the Coatesville Downingtown Bypass next week, affecting westbound U.S. 30 between Airport Road and Route 340 (Kings Highway) in Chester County. Closures will be in effect each night from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., running Monday, June 8 through Friday, June 12.
The restrictions are tied to ongoing paving operations under a $9.3 million corridor improvement project targeting the western section of the bypass. The project includes milling, structural base repairs, asphalt overlay, rumble strip replacement, and new pavement markings, all aimed at extending the road's service life and improving safety conditions for the thousands of drivers who use the route daily.
No official detour has been designated, meaning motorists will need to navigate a reduced-capacity work zone or identify alternate routes on their own if delays become significant. Daytime travel on the corridor is not expected to be affected. All scheduled work remains subject to weather conditions.
Painting, Baking and Basketball: How Downingtown Teens Stay Substance-Free

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — For the sixth consecutive year, Communities That Care of Greater Downingtown has invited local students to make the case for healthy living — this time with cameras rolling. The organization's annual youth video contest, open to grades 7 through 12 in the Downingtown Area School District, challenges students to highlight the hobbies and habits that support mental wellness and keep them away from alcohol, tobacco and drugs.
This year's winners span several schools and grade levels. A team of Downingtown STEM Academy 11th graders — Arya Chouksey, Ashwika Papasani and Tanvi Chigurupati — took first place with a video centered on painting, baking and exercise. Seventh-grader Ayden Koval claimed second place by spotlighting activities like scootering, drawing, reading and trampolining. Third place went to Downingtown West High School freshmen Leo Constantinidis, Keegan Brady and Aodhan Doherty, whose submission focused on physical fitness and sport as anchors for healthy decision-making. The winning videos can be viewed at www.dtownctc.org.
Caln Township's English Twin City Honors America's 250th With a Transatlantic Exhibition

CALN TWP — The 250th anniversary of American independence is being marked not just in Pennsylvania, but across the Atlantic, thanks to the longstanding sister-city relationship between Caln Township and Calne, England. The Calne Heritage Centre has mounted a dedicated exhibition — "Caln Township – America 250" — commemorating the anniversary in solidarity with its twin community in Chester County. The exhibit is open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., through July 25, 2026, and is free to the public.
On the Pennsylvania side, Caln Township is rolling out its own America 250 programming. Residents can find a full calendar of local events and order "Caln Celebrates America 250" branded merchandise through calntownship.org/America-250. The township is also giving away free commemorative yard signs — a small but tangible way for residents to participate in the national celebration — though supplies are limited and moving fast.
Upper Uwchlan Block Party Returns June 20 With Food and Fireworks

CHESTER SPRINGS, PA — Upper Uwchlan Township is gearing up for its 16th Annual Block Party, set for Saturday, June 20, along Route 100 between Byers Road and Darrell Drive in Chester Springs. The event runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., with fireworks capping off the evening.
Now a well-established staple of the township's summer programming, the block party draws families with a mix of entertainment and community engagement. This year's offerings include live music, caricature artists, face painting, bounce houses and slides for younger attendees, along with food vendors and a marketplace of local businesses, community groups and crafters.
