Local Group to Recreate 1777 Retreat March Up Ship Road

UWCHLAN TWP— Local history will come alive this month as the Uwchlan Township Historical Commission and the Lionville Historic District lead a free, three-hour walking tour retracing the route Continental Army soldiers took while retreating from the Battle of the Clouds in September 1777. The battle, disrupted by a severe rainstorm that forced General Washington's troops to withdraw, sent soldiers marching through what is now Uwchlan Township — along a stretch of Ship Road that remains recognizable today.
The event will begin at the Baird House, a historic property at 715 N. Ship Road now used as a township building, where attendees can tour the grounds and gardens before joining the march along the original road soldiers once traveled. Organizers hope the event will give residents a deeper appreciation for a piece of Revolutionary War history that unfolded quietly through their own community, rather than on a famous, distant battlefield. The tour is open to the public at no cost.

Uwchlan Township to Present Final Plans for Lionville Park, Rossi Property

UWCHLAN TWP — Uwchlan Township is set to unveil long-awaited master plans for two significant community properties, Lionville Park and the Rossi Property, during a public presentation this month at 715 N. Ship Road. The meeting will detail the planning process behind the proposals, including how community input was gathered, the design principles that shaped the work, and the conceptual plans that ultimately led to final recommendations.
Under the proposed plans, Lionville Park would see upgrades that reinforce its identity as a sports and recreation complex, expanding on its existing use by local athletic programs. The Rossi Property, meanwhile, would be transformed into a brand-new community park, one intended to broaden recreational opportunities in the township while preserving significant open space.
Upper Uwchlan Plans Township-Wide Cleanup for September 19

UPPER UWCHLAN TWP — Upper Uwchlan Township's Environmental Advisory Council will host a township-wide cleanup on September 19 from 9 to 11 a.m. Residents can volunteer solo or in groups to pick up litter, pull weeds, and tidy up shared spaces. The township will provide gloves, trash bags, and other supplies, and interested participants are asked to register online in advance.
Weekday Delays Expected on Shadyside Road as Construction Continues

WEST BRADFORD TWP — West Bradford Township is alerting residents to ongoing construction on Shadyside Road that began August 21 and is expected to continue for about 10 business days. The work is affecting the stretch of road between Route 322 and Marshallton Thorndale Road, which will be closed to general through traffic on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
While full closures are in place during those hours, officials noted that one lane will remain open for essential traffic, including school buses, emergency vehicles, and residents traveling locally. The road will return to normal access on weekends, when construction is paused.

From Cop to Camera: How John Thompson of JWTIV Photo Is Redefining Boudoir Photography in Chester County
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Host Jenny Leigh talks with boudoir photographer John Thompson, who traded a nearly decade-long law enforcement career in Georgia for a fresh start in Chester County after meeting his wife, Victoria. Thompson shares how he built JWTIV Photo into an award-winning boudoir business focused on everyday women — moms, brides, and first responders — rather than models, and how he and Victoria create a comfortable, full-day client experience from consultation to reveal.
He speaks openly about overcoming stereotypes as a male photographer, the professional credentials and training behind his work, and the emotional impact of helping clients see themselves in a new light — an experience that's also been part of his own healing from his time in law enforcement. The episode wraps with a look at what sets his business apart and his love for life in Chester County as a transplant who's made it home.
