Man Pleads Guilty, Sentenced to Life for Daughter's Death After Years of Abuse
WEST CHESTER, PA — A Chester County man pleaded guilty Friday to murdering his 12-year-old daughter after years of abuse and neglect. Rendell Hoagland, 54, was sentenced to life without parole after admitting to systematically abusing Malinda, who died in May 2024 weighing just 50 pounds with extensive injuries. Evidence showed the child was shackled to furniture, starved, and beaten over an extended period. His partner, Cindy Warren, awaits trial in June.
Water Main Repairs Scheduled Monday on Bradford Avenue in Downingtown
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown Municipal Water Authority has announced scheduled water main repairs that will affect residents on the 100 block of Bradford Avenue this Monday, January 19, 2026. Authority staff and contractors will be conducting the repairs between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., a six-hour window during which residents may experience water service interruptions.
PennDOT to Close Westbound U.S. 30 Lane for Repairs
CALN TWP — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation will continue overnight construction work next week on westbound U.S. 30 in Chester County as part of a $9.3 million project to rehabilitate and extend the life of the Coatesville Downingtown Bypass.
PennDOT announced Thursday that base repair operations will proceed Tuesday through Friday of next week, with lane closures in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. The restrictions will affect westbound U.S. 30 between Route 340 (Bondsville Road) and Airport Road, an area that serves as a major corridor through the City of Coatesville and the townships of Caln, Sadsbury, Valley, and West Caln.
Nordstrom Rack Eyes Fall Openings at Main Street Exton and Granite Run
EXTON, PA — Nordstrom Rack, the discount division of the Nordstrom department store chain, is significantly expanding its presence in the Philadelphia region with plans to open four new stores this fall, including locations in Exton and Media.
The Seattle-based retailer announced it will open 30,000-square-foot stores at the Main Street at Exton shopping center in Chester County and the Promenade at Granite Run in Media, Delaware County. Both openings are scheduled for fall 2026. The Exton location will be situated near the intersection of Routes 30 and 100, joining Walmart, Sephora, Barnes & Noble, Athleta and Michaels.
