Coatesville Man Charged With Murder After Girlfriend Found Strangled

COATESVILLE, PA — Kevin Reza-Gonzales, 20, of Coatesville, is facing first-degree murder, third-degree murder, and strangulation charges in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Chester County officials announced. According to investigators, Reza-Gonzales called 911 around 11 a.m. on August 2 to report suicidal thoughts. When officers located him near Chester Avenue and East Lincoln Highway, he told them he and the victim had argued and that he had choked her. A subsequent welfare check at her residence led police to find her dead in her bed, with bruising and neck injuries consistent with strangulation. Investigators concluded she had been killed earlier that morning. Reza-Gonzales was arraigned before Judge Gregory Hines and remanded to Chester County Prison without bail; his preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 12. Coatesville police are leading the investigation with assistance from Chester County Detectives. County officials emphasized ongoing support for domestic violence victims, pointing to the Domestic Violence Center of Chester County's 24-hour hotline.

Route 29 Sinking Again in East Whiteland, Prompting Emergency Repairs

EAST WHITELAND TWP — Emergency repair crews are on the scene in East Whiteland Township, where a portion of Route 29 near Quarry Hill Road has begun sinking. One lane of the roadway has been closed while work continues, and officials say they were first alerted to the issue Sunday afternoon. The cause of the sinking remains under investigation. Notably, this is not the first time the intersection has needed extensive attention — the same location previously underwent repairs that spanned more than a year in an earlier effort to resolve the same underlying issue, raising concerns among residents about whether the problem was ever truly fixed. No timeline has been given for when the lane will reopen or when a long-term solution will be implemented. Motorists are urged to expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through the area.
What Is SALDO? Downingtown Officials Explain the Rules of Development

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Downingtown Borough officials are working to explain a term that often puzzles residents attending Borough Council and Planning Commission meetings: SALDO, or the Subdivision and Land Development Ordinance. The ordinance sets the rules for how property in the borough can be subdivided and developed, with the goal of ensuring that new projects are safe, properly coordinated, and aligned with standards the borough has already adopted. Officials also took the opportunity to highlight the rights of property owners in the development process. If a proposal satisfies the borough's requirements, it is entitled to proceed through the approval process; if it does not, the borough is obligated to apply its ordinances consistently to every application, regardless of the project. Borough officials stressed that their function is not to render judgment on whether a project is popular or desirable, but to ensure fair and uniform review under the same adopted standards for all applicants. Residents seeking more information about development proposals in Downingtown were encouraged to contact the borough's Building & Planning Department or email [email protected] for guidance.
Downingtown Adds Flood Monitoring Camera to Track Brandywine Creek

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Downingtown Borough has installed a new flood monitoring camera at Borough Hall to give residents better visibility into real-time conditions along the East Branch Brandywine Creek, officials announced. The initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen the borough's flood preparedness, situational awareness, and public safety capabilities. Borough officials were explicit that the new camera is not a Flock Safety camera and does not function as a license plate reader — its sole purpose is monitoring creek conditions. The borough's Information Technology Department is currently working to integrate the camera's live video feed into the borough's website, a feature that would let residents, business owners, and visitors check creek conditions in real time from any device. Despite the tool's usefulness, officials cautioned that it should not be treated as the sole source of emergency information. During severe weather, residents were advised to continue following official weather alerts and guidance issued by local emergency management and public safety officials. The borough said additional updates will follow as it prepares to launch the public live stream.
