Downingtown Student Athlete to Represent U.S. at World Baton Twirling Championship

DOWNINGTOWN, PA โ€” Downingtown teenager Shay Busza is preparing for her biggest competitive moment yet. The 16-year-old has qualified to represent the U.S. at the 2026 IBTF World Freestyle and Rhythmic Twirl Championship in Paris, France, where she will compete in both solo and pairs divisions.

Baton twirling is more than a hobby in the Busza household โ€” it's a family tradition. Shay's mother, Alysha, competed in the sport and began passing her skills down to her daughters at a young age. That early foundation produced results: Shay and her sister Sterling claimed a gold medal at the 2022 world championship in Holland.

Shay was featured on 6ABC as she prepares for the competition. See the feature here

Chambers Lake to Close Briefly This Week for Invasive Plant Treatment

COATESVILLE, PA โ€” Chester County's Chambers Lake will undergo its first of three herbicide treatments this week as county officials work to combat the spread of invasive aquatic plant species. The lake will be temporarily closed beginning at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, and will remain closed through part of the afternoon on June 18, reopening later that same day once the application is finished.

Chester County Parks and Preservation emphasized that the treatments will not affect the safety of the lake for recreational use. Boating, fishing, and other permitted activities will resume normally once the lake reopens, and no fish consumption advisories will be in effect.
