Olympian Justin Best Proposes to Girlfriend Live in Paris
KENNET SQUARE, PA — Justin Best, a gold medalist in the 2024 Summer Olympics, surprised his longtime girlfriend, Lainey Duncan, with a proposal on live television. The romantic moment, set against the backdrop of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and accompanied by over 2,700 yellow roses, symbolized their nine-year relationship. Best, who has been a key figure in Team USA's rowing achievements, has a unique entry into the sport, inspired by his parents after watching "The Social Network." Duncan, a Drexel University graduate in fashion design, accepted the proposal with joy, marking the occasion as "the best day of my life."
Downingtown Students Shine at National TSA Conference, Winning Top Honors
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — At the recent National Technology Student Association (TSA) Conference in Orlando, Florida, students from the Downingtown Area School District achieved significant success, earning a total of five top-three awards. The district's representation included participants from Lionville Middle School, STEM Academy, Downingtown High School East, and Downingtown High School West. Key accomplishments included first-place awards in the "Essays on Technology" and "Website Design" categories. Additionally, the district saw second-place finishes in "Virtual Reality Visualization" and "Music Production," along with several other top-ten placements.
The event showcased the district's strong focus on STEM education, providing students with opportunities to explore their interests in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The recognition of Lionville Middle School's TSA Advisor, Catherine Parks, as the National Advisor of the Year further emphasized the district's dedication to nurturing young talent in these fields
Weekly 'Connect Tuesdays' at Chester County Library to Feature Non-Profit Resources
EXTON, PA —The Chester County Library & District Center is launching "Connect Tuesdays" on August 20, a weekly initiative aimed at connecting community members with local non-profits offering vital services. Each Tuesday, a different organization will be present at the library to provide information on issues such as housing, employment, mental health, and disability assistance. The schedule is structured to cover a range of needs, with specific themes assigned to each week of the month. A Mobile Navigator from the Human Needs Network will also be available weekly to assist with social services questions and program enrollment.
Organizations participating in this initiative include Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania, the Housing Partnership of Chester County, Handi-Crafters, North Star of Chester County, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Chester County PA Chapter. The program aims to offer accessible support and information to community members, making it easier for them to navigate various social services. Coventry Woods to Host Village Walk as Part of Chester County's Historic Tours
NORTH COVENTRY TWP — Chester County's annual Town Tours and Village Walks program, marking its 30th anniversary, continues to celebrate the region's rich history and preservation efforts. On August 8, Coventry Woods will be the site of a village walk, offering participants a chance to explore the area's historical and cultural heritage. The event will cover topics such as the Lenape presence in Chester County, the early iron industry's impact, the historical "Free Love Valley" and Battleaxe Movement, and the significance of Hopewell Big Woods, Camp Fernbrook, and Coventry Woods today.
