Downingtown's Live & Local Concert Series Returns to Kerr Park

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Downingtown's Live & Local concert series returns this summer, beginning June 20 at the Kerr Park Gazebo. Organized by Downingtown Parks and Recreation and presented alongside the Chester County Mural & Arts Project, the free outdoor event will run from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and feature two local performers, Elise and Mike Cummings. The series is part of the borough's ongoing effort to bring community programming into its public green spaces during the summer season, giving residents a convenient and accessible evening entertainment option, with a relaxed, family-friendly setting and no admission cost.
Chester County Declares June Pet Preparedness Month, Urging Families to Plan Ahead

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County officially designated June as Pet Preparedness Month this week, with commissioners joining the Brandywine Valley SPCA and the county's Department of Emergency Services to remind residents that emergency planning should account for every member of the family — including pets. The proclamation, read into the public record at a June 17 meeting in West Chester, came alongside appearances by two adoptable rescue puppies that drew a warm response from those in attendance.
Officials from both the county and the SPCA stressed that the time to make these decisions is before an emergency, not during one. Key recommendations include assembling a pet go-kit stocked with food, water, medications and veterinary records, verifying that microchip and ID tag information is up to date, and identifying pet-friendly emergency shelters and hotels in advance. Reuniting with a pet after a separation during a disaster can be difficult, advocates noted, making upfront preparation all the more critical.
East Brandywine Community Park Gets a Pavilion Upgrade, Courtesy of Local Donors

EAST BRANDYWINE TWP — East Brandywine Township's public works team has finished replacing the roof on the Tara Pavilion at Community Park, capping off an infrastructure project made possible by a private donation from community members Di and Dallas Krapf. The new metal roof replaces the pavilion's previous covering and is expected to offer greater durability and longevity for one of the park's most-used outdoor spaces.
The Krapf donation allowed the project to move forward without drawing on the township's standard parks budget, a model that township officials appear to welcome as they look ahead to similar improvements. The Alison Pavilion, another covered structure within the same park, is slated to receive a matching metal roof replacement, making it the next phase of the overall pavilion upgrade effort.
West Chester Goes All In on World Music Day This Sunday

WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester is going all in on World Music Day this Sunday, June 21, with a borough-wide celebration that turns the downtown into a sprawling, multi-stage outdoor concert. More than 30 musicians will perform across 12 locations between 1:30 and 7 p.m., giving attendees the freedom to wander from spot to spot and catch a little bit of everything throughout the afternoon.
The event lands on Father's Day, making it a natural option for families hoping to get outside and mark the holiday without a lot of planning or expense. World Music Day — celebrated internationally on the summer solstice — has long been rooted in the idea that live music belongs in public spaces, and West Chester's approach leans into that fully by distributing performances throughout the business district rather than funneling crowds to a single venue.
