Chester County Library Marks Annual Legislative Breakfast With Focus on Access and Learning

EXTON, PA — Local and state officials gathered Friday morning at the Chester County Library in Exton for the library system's annual Legislative Breakfast, an event organized around this year's theme, "Libraries Empower and Inspire." The breakfast brought together all three Chester County commissioners, state legislators, municipal leaders and library advocates to discuss the role public libraries play in the county.
The morning coincided with the release of the 2025–2026 Impact Report, which documents how residents have used library resources to advance their education, careers and personal goals. Commissioner Josh Maxwell opened the program by describing libraries as institutions that remove barriers to information, technology and community resources, illustrating his remarks with the account of a recent immigrant who relied on the library while finishing high school and went on to gain admission to Penn State's engineering honors program. He also noted the system's investment in multilingual materials, makerspaces, museum passes and a growing Library of Things.
Commissioner Marian Moskowitz spoke about learning as a continuous process, citing a patron experiencing homelessness who used library computers and Wi-Fi hotspots to complete job training and qualify as a wildland firefighter. Commissioner Eric Roe closed the program by emphasizing the library's function as a community hub where residents feel supported and connected.
Downingtown Trestle Bridge Set for Inspection as Part of Trail Expansion Plan
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — A specialized engineering crew authorized by Chester County will inspect the Downingtown Trestle Bridge from Monday, May 11, through Friday, May 15, working daily between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Crews will use rope systems and may be seen hanging from the structure, and the Downingtown Police Department is asking residents not to call 911 unless an actual emergency occurs. The inspection is part of the county's plan to rehabilitate the historic bridge and expand the Chester County Trail, and no impact is anticipated for traffic on U.S. Route 322.
Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art Unveils $100 Million Plan for Second Museum and 325-Acre Preserve

CHADDS FORD, PA — The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art has announced a roughly $100 million expansion that will add a 40,000-square-foot museum building designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates — the firm's first museum in the United States — in collaboration with Schwartz Silver Architects. The institution's historic Mill building will also be renovated, and Field Operations will oversee the expansion of the Chadds Ford campus into a 325-acre public preserve and garden, complete with ten miles of trails that loop between the two museum buildings and the former studios of N.C. and Andrew Wyeth.
WCU Recognized as a Top School for Veterans and Military Families

WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester University has earned Gold status as a Military Friendly School for the 2026–2027 academic year and has again been named a Military Spouse Friendly School. The designation, awarded after a survey of more than 3,200 schools, recognizes institutions that demonstrate strong programs and outcomes for veterans, active-duty service members and their families. At WCU, those services are centered at the Greg and Sandra Weisenstein Veterans Center, which offers academic support, a dedicated counselor, scholarship funding through the Weisenstein Endowment and gathering spaces for student veterans and their families.
