Chester County Commissioners Recognize Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with Proclamation

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County commissioners issued a proclamation in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on January 20. Newly installed leaders of the NAACP – Coatesville chapter were on hand to receive the distinction, underscoring the group’s dedication to civil rights and community service. The proclamation calls on local nonprofits, religious institutions, schools, and private entities to organize events in the days leading up to and following the holiday. By promoting volunteer opportunities and acts of service, officials aim to uphold Dr. King’s vision of unity, empathy, and cooperation throughout Chester County.

Downingtown Native, Miles Teller’s LA Home Destroyed as Wildfires Sweep Through California

LOS ANGELOS, CA — Downingtown native and star of “Top Gun: Maverick,” Miles Teller is among the many homeowners in Los Angeles who have lost their residences to the ongoing Southern California wildfires. The couple’s Pacific Palisades home, purchased in recent years, stood in an area severely affected by fast-moving flames that have consumed at least 20,000 acres. Officials report that the fires have taken multiple lives, displaced nearly 180,000 people, and destroyed countless structures, including several owned by other well-known figures.

A Township’s Call to Action: West Bradford Launches Sustainability Rewards

WEST BRADFORD TWP — West Bradford Township’s “Preserve & Conserve” Resident Reward Program recognizes residents who adopt sustainable practices in daily life. Launched in 2024, the initiative offers three levels—Bronze, Silver, and Gold—based on how many environmentally friendly activities each household completes. The highest honor includes a donated shade tree, planted by the township. All residents are eligible to apply online and are encouraged to review educational resources before submitting their forms. Ann Marie Wheatcraft Named President Judge in Chester County

WEST CHESTER, PA — Ann Marie Wheatcraft, who has served on the Chester County Court of Common Pleas since her election in 2011, was officially sworn in as the court’s president judge during a ceremony last week. Prior to taking on her new responsibilities, she oversaw the County’s treatment courts, which focus on addressing certain issues through specialized legal and rehabilitation programs. Chester County commissioners were among those present to commemorate the occasion.
