DOWNINGTOWN, PA — On Wednesday night, Downingtown authorities shut down sections of West Lancaster Avenue and Manor Avenue in response to a mental health crisis reportedly involving an individual with a firearm. The closures began shortly before 6:30 p.m., and officers worked to secure the area while urging bystanders to stay clear. By 10 p.m., the roads were reopened, and the individual was transported for a mental health evaluation. Although the incident created a significant police presence, no additional injuries were reported. An investigation into the circumstances continues.
Ex-Student Teacher Faces Charges for Allegedly Recording High School Locker room
POTTSTOWN, PA — Authorities have charged a former student teacher in Chester County with multiple counts of sexual abuse of children and invasion of privacy. The individual, who spent only a few days at Owen J. Roberts High School, is accused of secretly recording members of the wrestling team in a locker room shower in January 2023. After a student noticed a phone capturing footage, school administrators terminated the individual’s role and alerted law enforcement.
A subsequent search of the suspect’s devices uncovered additional images, some allegedly dating to his previous employment at a school in Allegheny County. As a result, the Pennsylvania State Police have filed charges in both Chester and Allegheny Counties. In response, school officials initiated a swift communication process with affected families, and support services were offered to students. District representatives underscored the importance of immediate action and collaboration with law enforcement in ensuring the safety of the student body.
Phorid Fly Infestation Spurs Emergency Declarations in Southern Chester County
KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Southern Chester County has been grappling with a persistent outbreak of phorid flies, an invasive insect that has inflicted substantial harm on the area’s mushroom industry. Officials in Kennett, Avondale, New Garden, and Kennett Square have declared states of emergency, noting that the flies can reduce mushroom production by up to 40 percent and create a notable nuisance for local residents.
Penn State researchers, with support from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, have been investigating sustainable strategies to control the infestation. Current efforts involve the development of products containing natural predators and new biological treatments designed to minimize the pests without endangering other species or the environment.
Advocates for the mushroom industry, which anchors the region’s economy, have pushed for swifter approval of emerging technologies. Local leaders have asked the governor’s administration for direct involvement, seeking to expedite regulatory processes that could bring relief to farmers and homeowners alike.
Drivers Alerted to Changes as Sheree Boulevard Reopens

EXTON, PA — Sheree Boulevard is once again open to traffic, with local officials installing two new stop signs between Route 100 and Route 113. Drivers are encouraged to remain alert as they adjust to this recent change, which aims to improve safety for everyone in the area.
