Proposed Floodplain Project Aims to Protect Downingtown Homes

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Downingtown residents continue to face recurring floods from Beaver Creek and the Brandywine Creek, with damage highlighted during Hurricane Ida in 2021. In response, local leaders funded an engineering study to remove soil and build a berm in an 8.5-acre wetland area, aiming to shield at least 18 homes and nearby athletic fields. Though the project’s estimated cost is $654,580, additional grants could help with floodproofing individual houses. Whether these efforts will ultimately change local insurance requirements remains uncertain, but the community hopes the plan will bring relief.

G.O. Carlson Boulevard Detour Launches as Infrastructure Work Begins

CALN TWP — From calntownship.org, A stretch of G.O. Carlson Boulevard between Buchanan Drive and N Bailey Road will be closed with a detour going into effect the morning of January 8th, 2025 through February 28th, 2025. The detour route will run through C.G. Zinn Road. 

​The detour is to allow crews to operate in the area where G.O. Carlson Blvd crosses over Valley Run. The project will provide vital reinforcement to the structural integrity of the retaining wall. It will also serve as a component of the Township's ongoing stormwater infrastructure improvements. 

Overnight Closure on Bell Tavern Boulevard for Water Line Upgrades, next Monday, Jan 13th

EAST CALN TWP — East Caln officials have announced an overnight closure of Bell Tavern Boulevard, scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on Monday, January 13, and concluding by 5 a.m. the following day. The closure affects the stretch from Route 113 to South Woodmont Drive, where water line maintenance is planned. Though crews anticipate finishing the job in a single night, unforeseen complications or inclement weather could prompt delays. Commuters should avoid the area during these hours and arrange for alternate travel routes.
