Bayard Rustin Principal Steps Down; Law Enforcement Visits Campus

WEST CHESTER, PA โ€” Just days after the resignation of Bayard Rustin High Schoolโ€™s principal, Michael Marano, law enforcement officials were seen at the Westtown campus, prompting questions and concerns among families and students. The West Chester Area School District confirmed that the police presence occurred on Wednesday, though it did not disclose the nature of the inquiry. The Chester County District Attorneyโ€™s Office acknowledged awareness of the situation but declined to confirm whether a criminal investigation is in progress.

WEST GROVE, PA โ€” A mid-morning threat of gun violence disrupted classes at Avon Grove High School in Chester County on Wednesday, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement. The school was briefly shut down as authorities worked to ensure the safety of students and staff. Officials have not offered further details regarding how the threat was issued or the specifics of the incident.

Large Grant Moves Senior Facility Closer to New Downingtown Location

DOWNINGTOWN, PA โ€” Brandywine Valley Active Aging, a nonprofit formed from the merger of two established senior centers, will soon have the resources to create a permanent home in Downingtown, thanks to a $450,000 grant from Chester County officials. For the past few years, the organization has been serving its growing number of clients from a temporary location, offering daily meals, exercise classes, and a variety of community-based services.

With this new investment, the group plans to purchase a dedicated facility in 2025. The expanded space is expected to provide greater accessibility, improved programming, and a more welcoming environment for the more than 2,100 older adults served each year.

Sinkhole Prompts Local Closures in King of Prussia

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA โ€” A newly formed sinkhole behind a Walgreens on East Dekalb Pike in King of Prussia prompted immediate action from local authorities this week. Officials have closed off entrances at the rear of the store and restricted access to a drive-thru lane. These measures are intended to ensure public safety while engineers assess the extent of the ground instability.

This latest sinkhole occurs in an area known for similar issues. Earlier this year, sinkholes disrupted sections of the Chester Valley Trail and forced partial closures along Route 202. While the current situation is contained to the immediate vicinity of the Walgreens, residents are encouraged to exercise caution and follow any updated guidance from local officials.
