Master Watershed Steward Program Aims to Empower Local Environmental Leaders
MALVERN, PA — This week, a virtual information session offered future volunteers in Chester and Delaware Counties an inside look at Penn State Extension’s Master Watershed Steward training program. Participants learned how the spring program equips them with the skills and knowledge to lead local efforts in natural resource conservation and environmental education. The training covers a range of topics, including water quality, wildlife habitats, and community engagement techniques. Graduates often go on to organize clean-ups, manage restoration projects, educate adults and children, and collaborate with local officials on sustainable stormwater management. Those who register receive a link to the live webinar and can access a recorded version for six months, ensuring they have ample time to explore the program’s requirements, associated fees, and volunteer opportunities.Share the newsletter
Pennsylvania Invests $24 Million to Restore Chesapeake Bay Watershed
HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania’s renewed effort to restore the Chesapeake Bay watershed has taken a significant step forward with a $24 million investment in local conservation projects. Distributed across 34 counties, these grants will be used to reduce nutrient runoff, plant trees along vulnerable streambanks, and upgrade stormwater systems. The initiative aims to curtail sediment and pollution levels, improve water quality, and bolster the health of aquatic habitats. Lancaster County will receive the largest share, while other areas, including Chester County, will also see support for initiatives tailored to their specific needs. Within the next 12 to 18 months, the state anticipates notable improvements in the watershed’s environmental quality, providing a blueprint that may inspire similar efforts nationwide.
