Federal Funding Boosts CCEDC's Efforts to Aid Low-Income Communities

EXTON, PA — The Chester County Economic Development Council (CCEDC), based in Exton, is moving closer to becoming a federally designated Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), a status that would enable it to deliver expanded financial and educational resources to underserved businesses and low-income communities. CDFIs, established in 1994, are instrumental in fostering economic development in disadvantaged areas, and over 1,000 operate nationwide.
In addition to its long-standing efforts to support local businesses, including minority- and women-owned enterprises, CCEDC recently secured $300,000 from the Treasury Department to enhance its operations and outreach. The nonprofit, which began the application process nearly a year ago, views this designation as a vital step toward furthering its mission to boost Chester County’s economy.
