CCIU Distributes Shoes to Support Students Facing Homelessness

COATESVILLE, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) recently wrapped up its Shoe Drive Event, held on Nov. 20-21 at the Gordon Early Literacy Center. The event, organized during Homelessness Awareness Week, provided much-needed footwear for students experiencing homelessness in Chester County. These shoes, donated by Soles 4 Souls, aim to alleviate barriers to education, such as inconsistent attendance and transportation issues, faced by students without stable housing.
The initiative aligns with the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, which ensures equal access to education for unhoused students. By addressing practical needs, the shoe drive highlights CCIU’s dedication to supporting vulnerable populations and fostering a supportive learning environment for all students.
Downingtown Finalizes Siemens Property Deal with Rockwell Development

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown Area School District has finalized a sales agreement with Rockwell Development for the Siemens property near the Pennsylvania Turnpike and Route 100. After gathering community feedback earlier this year, district leaders prioritized plans for a 55+ community or a business/commercial project, avoiding the widely opposed warehouse option.
Rockwell Development will submit two proposals to Uwchlan Township: one for a 55+ community requiring zoning changes and another for a business/commercial project permitted under current zoning. Both plans will include a natatorium and open space.
Addressing concerns about transparency, the district noted that confidentiality during negotiations was necessary but emphasized its commitment to keeping the public informed as the process moves forward. Officials believe the plans will positively reflect the community’s vision and contribute to the area’s development. The update was communicated in a letter from Robert O’Donnell sent to residents of the school district.

Kimberton Whole Foods Raises Over $4,600 for Downingtown Fire Depts

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The Downingtown community demonstrated its generosity last month by raising $2,320.51 for Alert Fire Co. No. 1 and Minquas Fire Company No. 2 through Kimberton Whole Foods’ "Rounding Up at the Register" program. Shoppers were encouraged to round up their purchases to the nearest dollar, with proceeds going to local fire companies. Kimberton Whole Foods matched the donations, bringing the total to $4,641.02.
This initiative highlights the importance of community-driven programs that benefit essential local services. The funds will directly support the fire companies, which play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of Downingtown residents.
