West Goshen Detective Accused of Stealing Prescription Drugs

WEST GOSHEN TWP — David Maurer, a detective in West Goshen Township, is facing felony charges for allegedly diverting prescription medications meant for safe disposal. Tasked with emptying medication collection boxes, Maurer reportedly kept controlled substances for personal use instead of delivering them to the proper disposal facility.

The Township has placed Maurer on administrative leave and pledged full cooperation with the Chester County District Attorney’s Office. Officials emphasized their commitment to public accountability and trust while declining to provide further details due to the ongoing investigation.

Chester County Extends Open Burn Ban

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Board of Commissioners has approved a 30-day extension to the countywide open burn ban, effective through December 26, 2024. The decision was based on recommendations from emergency and forestry officials who warn that current dry conditions continue to pose a significant fire risk.

While some rainfall has occurred recently, officials noted that it has not been sufficient to address the fire potential in small, easily ignitable materials like brush and twigs. The ban prohibits the outdoor burning of any combustible items, including yard waste, garbage, and vegetation, whether in burn barrels, fire pits, or on the ground.

Residents and businesses are encouraged to adhere to the restrictions to protect the community. Authorities have stated that the ban will remain in place unless conditions improve significantly before the December 26 deadline.

Uwchlan Township Unveils New Waste Collection System for 2025

UWCHLAN TWP — Uwchlan Township is set to implement changes to its waste collection services under a new contract with Whitetail Disposal, LLC, starting January 1, 2025. Trash and recycling will now be collected on Tuesdays, with the first collection day for the new system scheduled for January 7. Yard waste collection will continue on select weeks, but only paper bags will be accepted moving forward, replacing the use of bins.

To accommodate the shift to an automated collection system, Whitetail Disposal will distribute two 96-gallon bins, one for trash and one for recycling, to each household in December. Residents who prefer smaller bins will have the option to request them. In areas where automated trucks cannot operate, manual collection will remain in place.

Each household will be permitted one bulk item pickup per month, to be scheduled with Whitetail Disposal. Trash payments will remain $95 per quarter, and from January, collection issues will be reported directly to Whitetail Disposal.

Coatesville’s Mondre Alston Honored for Economic Development Efforts

COATESVILLE, PA — The Coatesville 2nd Century Alliance held its 4th annual Partner Appreciation Reception on November 12, honoring Coatesville native Mondre Alston with the Tammy Cansler-Miles Economic Development Award for 2024. Alston, an entrepreneur dedicated to housing revitalization, mentoring new business owners, and community service, accepted the award before a crowd of more than 100 partners gathered at the Arches in Coatesville.

The award was established by the Coatesville 2nd Century Alliance in partnership with the Chester County Industrial Development Authority to recognize individuals who embody the commitment to economic and social progress exemplified by Tammy Cansler-Miles.

As the organization prepares to celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2025, leaders reflected on the progress achieved through collaboration and pledged to continue working toward the city’s revitalization. The nonprofit relies on donations and volunteers to sustain its initiatives, which aim to foster growth and opportunity in Coatesville. More information is available at 2ndCenturyAlliance.org.
