YMCA’s Holiday Cheer Drive Aims to Support Over 800 Chester County Families
WEST CHESTER, PA — This holiday season, the YMCA of Greater Brandywine invites Chester County residents to join its Holiday Cheer initiative to aid families in need. With nearly 74,000 people facing financial challenges, YGBW hopes to assist over 800 families, a 25% increase from last year. Through "Bags of Gratitude" and "Gifts of Joy" programs, donors can contribute non-perishable food and holiday gifts, with deadlines set for November 1 and December 1. Additionally, 3,500 new winter coats will be distributed to local children, thanks to YGBW’s collaboration with the Auto Dealers CARing for Kids Foundation. More info on their website
Holiday at the Barn: Craft Market and Tree Lighting Celebration at Springton Manor
GLENMOORE, PA — Springton Manor Farm will hold a festive holiday gathering on December 14, welcoming families for a day of free seasonal activities and community cheer. Highlights include a craft market, a candy cane hunt, photos with Santa, and a 5 p.m. tree lighting led by Santa himself. Throughout the day, families can enjoy wagon rides, an ornament craft station, and face painting, while the Smoke Signals BBQ food truck offers refreshments. The event, designed to spread holiday joy, also features a themed photo booth and a mailbox for kids to drop off letters to Santa.
Road Closures in West Bradford Township Set for October 31
WEST BRADFORD TWP — Residents of West Bradford Township should anticipate two road closures on October 31 due to infrastructure maintenance. Aqua will close Lloyd Avenue between Prospect Avenue and Lancaster Avenue for water line repairs, expected to last all day. Additionally, Poorhouse Road will be closed to through traffic between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. to allow crews to complete line painting. The township recommends motorists plan alternative routes during these times to avoid potential delays.
Caln Township Installs Stream Gage to Monitor Beaver Creek Flooding
CALN TWP — Caln Township recently added a valuable tool to its flood monitoring resources with the installation of a USGS stream gage in Lloyd Park. The device will continuously collect water level data for Beaver Creek, helping officials monitor flooding potential in real-time. Publicly accessible through the USGS website, the data provides both live and historical water level information, allowing residents and local authorities to track changes and respond proactively to rising water levels. The Chester County Water Resource Authority played a key role in coordinating the installation, enhancing Caln Township’s preparedness for flood-related events.
