Chesco Woman Accused of Setting Fire to Home Heads to Trial

Firefighter Training

BERWYN, PA ā€” In Chester County, Kathryn Frankel, 42, will stand trial on charges of arson following a July fire that severely damaged her home in Berwyn. This incident was the second fire in three months at her property, prompting investigators to look closely at potential foul play. On the day of the fire, Frankel met with her husband and an insurance adjuster at the residence before calling 911 to report the blaze. First responders found Frankel outside, her hair singed and her clothes covered in soot. Evidence presented in court revealed the presence of gasoline and accelerants at the scene, a factor prosecutors say links her to the fire. Frankelā€™s formal arraignment is scheduled for November 14.

WILMINGTON, DE ā€” In a significant financial fraud case, Robert Higgins of West Chester has been convicted on charges of mail, wire, and tax fraud after using customer assets from his Delaware precious metals depository for personal luxury expenses. Higgins allegedly diverted over $50 million in gold and silver, impacting numerous clients, some of whom lost their life savings. Prosecutors demonstrated that Higgins financed his lifestyle with funds meant to be safeguarded, and Judge Maryellen Noreika has detained him until sentencing. The case, one of the largest thefts from a precious metals depository in U.S. history, highlights the government's dedication to holding financial criminals accountable. Higgins may face up to 20 years for fraud and additional penalties for tax violations.
