Murder-Suicide Attempt Shakes Chester County Nursing Facility
POTTSTOWN, PA — An 89-year-old woman died, and a 90-year-old man was hospitalized after a shooting at Manatawny Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in East Coventry, which authorities have labeled a “murder-attempted suicide.” The Chester County District Attorney confirmed the incident, noting the male shooter was a frequent visitor to the facility. While families have been notified and residents assured, security protocols have come under scrutiny as the investigation progresses.
Trunk-or-Treat Events and Halloween Party Planned for Saturday in Chester County
DOWNINGTOWN, PA — A trio of family-friendly Halloween events will take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, across the area. Upper Uwchlan Township starts the celebrations with a Trunk-or-Treat at Hickory Park from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM, featuring candy, activities, and local emergency services displays. Downingtown Area Chamber of Commerce will follow with a Trunk-or-Treat at Kiddie Academy from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Rounding out the evening, Caln Township will host a Halloween Party at 241 Municipal Drive in Thorndale from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, including a costume contest, games, and a scavenger hunt. All events are free and open to the public.
East Caln Township Enacts Temporary Burn Ban Amid Dry Conditions
EAST CALN TWP — East Caln Township announced an immediate ban on all outdoor burning activities, citing dry conditions and the need to protect public safety. The temporary restriction covers campfires, bonfires, fire pits, and agricultural burns. Officials acknowledged the inconvenience this may cause but emphasized that ensuring safety in the township remains their top priority. This new restriction supplements a standing ban on burning leaves, rubbish, and trash.
