HONEY BROOK, PA — In the early hours of Friday morning, a house fire on Hunters Run Road in Honey Brook Township left one person dead, as investigators work to determine the cause. Firefighters arrived at the scene around 4:48 a.m. and fought the blaze, which caused part of the home to collapse. Explosions were heard during the incident, but officials have not yet clarified whether they contributed to the fire or were triggered by it.
Emergency responders recovered a body from the rubble, though the identity of the victim has not yet been released. It is also unclear how many people were inside the house at the time of the fire. Authorities have stressed that the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no ongoing danger to the community.
The fire was brought under control shortly after 6 a.m., but the investigation remains active, with state police leading efforts to uncover what caused the fatal blaze.
Chester County Prothonotary Resigns Amid Financial Investigation
WEST CHESTER, PA — Debbie Bookman, the first Democrat to be elected as Chester County prothonotary, has resigned, citing personal reasons after a challenging year. Bookman’s decision comes as her office faces an investigation by the county Controller’s Office regarding improper use of county-issued credit cards. Bookman admitted to accidentally using the office card for personal purchases but said she repaid the charges and emphasized that there was no intent to misuse public funds.
Despite the ongoing financial inquiry, Bookman insists her resignation is primarily due to personal hardships, including the death of her father, which affected her ability to fulfill her duties.
Her resignation leaves Deputy Prothonotary Kristen Hume as acting prothonotary. The investigation has been referred to the District Attorney’s Office, but no further details have been released.
