Operation Green Light Returns to Chester County to Recognize Veterans' Service

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County is calling on residents to take part in Operation Green Light, a week-long initiative from November 4-11 to honor veterans and their families. The County will light up the historic courthouse in green, and residents are encouraged to display green lights at their homes or businesses as a symbol of support.
The County's Department of Veterans Affairs is offering free green light bulbs, courtesy of a grant from Walmart, to make it easier for the community to participate. Beyond the display of appreciation, Operation Green Light also serves to remind veterans of the numerous resources available to them through local and national services, including healthcare, benefits application assistance, and family support.
Now in its third year in Chester County, the initiative is part of a national effort to acknowledge the commitment of veterans and their families. Participants are invited to send photos of their green light displays to show their solidarity. For more details on how to get involved or where to pick up a free bulb, residents can visit the County’s Veterans Affairs website.
West Chester Christmas Parade Seeks Volunteers for December 6 Event

WEST CHESTER, PA — The West Chester Christmas Parade, a cherished holiday tradition, returns on December 6 with an all-star lineup of performers and floats, including local Olympians and the 2024 Mummers Champion String Band. Sponsored by Chester County Hospital, the parade is organized by the Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce and promises a festive evening for the community.
To ensure the event runs smoothly, the parade is seeking 125 volunteers to serve as marshals. These volunteers will guide spectators, keep the parade on schedule, and help with safety. Additionally, a smaller group of volunteers is needed to assist with the setup and breakdown of the main stage area. Volunteers who sign up will receive official parade winter hats, and they will be given instructions closer to the event.
The parade will begin at 7 p.m., preceded by the West Chester Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6:30 p.m., featuring performances from local choirs and guest appearances. The grand finale will be Santa’s arrival, hosted by 6abc Meteorologist Adam Joseph and WMMR’s Kathy Romano. This parade is part of West Chester’s larger “Lights Up Holiday Weekends” series, which features holiday events from Thanksgiving through New Year’s, including concerts, a gingerbread house competition, and more.

The role comes with a starting salary of $51,767 and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical coverage, a retirement plan, and paid time off. Patient First Offers Free Candy X-Rays and Safety Blinkers for Halloween

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Patient First is providing free candy X-rays at all of its locations from October 27 to November 1 to help ensure a safer Halloween for families. This service allows parents to have their children’s Halloween candy scanned for foreign objects such as glass, metal, or plastic, though it does not offer a complete guarantee. Parents are still encouraged to inspect candy closely before letting their children eat it.
In addition to the X-rays, Patient First is distributing free safety blinkers throughout October. These blinkers, designed to keep kids visible during trick-or-treating, are available at any Patient First location without the need for an appointment or registration.
