Cavalcanteās Escape Costs Him Right to Appeal Murder Conviction
HARRISBURG, PA ā The Pennsylvania Superior Court has thrown out the appeal of Danelo Cavalcante, convicted of first-degree murder in 2021, due to his escape from Chester County Prison during the appeal process. Cavalcanteās legal team filed a notice of appeal after his conviction, but his decision to flee in September 2023 voided his right to have the court consider the appeal. The court ruled that his escape constituted a forfeiture of appellate rights, citing legal precedent. Cavalcante was captured after a two-week manhunt and has since been sentenced to an additional 15 years in prison for the escape. He is serving a life sentence without parole for the murder of his former girlfriend.
West Whiteland Police Host License Plate Replacement Day
EXTON, PA ā On October 20, 2024, the West Whiteland Township Police Department, in partnership with AAA, will host an event for residents needing to replace damaged or hard-to-read license plates. The event, held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 101 Commerce Drive in Exton, invites drivers with peeling, faded, or otherwise illegible plates to bring their vehicles and receive assistance. While new plates wonāt be issued on the spot, PennDOT will provide free replacements after the necessary paperwork is processed. To participate, attendees must present their current Pennsylvania vehicle registration and an unexpired Pennsylvania driverās license.
Park Hours Change with Shorter Days in Chester County
WEST CHESTER, PA ā Chester County Parks have updated their operating hours, with all parks now closing at 7:00 p.m. as the days grow shorter. The new schedule is part of the countyās regular adjustments based on available daylight, a practice intended to ensure both safety and convenience for park visitors. As autumn progresses and daylight diminishes, residents are reminded that park hours will continue to shift accordingly.
