United Way Forum Calls for Compassionate Change Amid Economic Pressures
KENNETT SQUARE, PA — At a recent forum held at the Kennett Library, the United Way of Southern Chester County brought together nonprofit leaders and community members to discuss solutions for the region's working poor. The event, Conversations for Compassionate Change, highlighted the growing challenges faced by residents, from food insecurity and housing shortages to transportation barriers and access to mental health care. Panelists stressed the importance of empathy and collaboration, urging nonprofits, businesses, and the community to work together toward sustainable solutions.
Food insecurity has increased by 30 percent since 2020, with the Chester County Food Bank distributing millions of pounds of food to meet rising needs. However, the forum underscored that temporary relief efforts alone are not enough to solve these systemic problems.
Coatesville Youth Initiative Hosts Fall Fest and Block Party to Celebrate Season and Community
COATESVILLE, PA — The Coatesville Youth Initiative and Equity Health Center are hosting a Fall Fest and Block Party on October 26, offering a mix of family-friendly activities and health services. Held at two locations in downtown Coatesville, the event will feature hayrides, music, food, and resources from local nonprofits, aiming to connect residents with community support while celebrating the fall season.
Good Food Fest Returns to Celebrate Local Farms and Fresh Flavors
KIMBERTON, PA — The Good Food Fest is set to take place on November 3, 2024, at the Kimberton Fairgrounds, promising a lively celebration of local food and farming. Organized by Growing Roots Partners and supported by Kimberton Whole Foods, the event will feature more than 100 producers, culinary demonstrations, live music, and food trucks.
The festival’s mission extends beyond entertainment, aiming to educate attendees on the importance of sustainable agriculture and the value of supporting regional food systems. Children’s activities, farm animals, and opportunities to meet local growers and makers will add to the day’s interactive experience.
Premier sponsor Kimberton Whole Foods has been a longtime advocate for local agriculture, working closely with area farmers to support organic and sustainable practices. Growing Roots Partners, the event’s organizer, manages multiple farmers markets across Chester and Berks Counties, helping farmers connect directly with consumers while fostering community engagement.
Volunteers Needed for Uwchlan Township’s Fall Clean-Up Event
UWCHLAN TWP — The Environmental Advisory Council of Uwchlan Township is organizing a Fall Litter Clean-Up event on Sunday, October 27, with a rain date of November 3. Volunteers will meet at Giunta’s Furniture on N. Pottstown Pike to kick off the effort, aimed at removing litter from public areas to preserve the community’s natural beauty and prevent environmental harm.
Participants aged 16 and older are welcome to join, though organizers recommend wearing bright clothing, long sleeves, pants, and sturdy shoes for safety.
