Philadelphiaâs SS United States to Become Worldâs Largest Artificial Reef
PHILADELPHIA, PA â The SS United States, a once-glorious ocean liner that has languished on the Philadelphia waterfront for years, is on the verge of a new life as the worldâs largest artificial reef. Okaloosa County, Florida, has reached a deal with the SS United States Conservancy to acquire the vessel and sink it as part of an underwater network designed to boost tourism through diving and fishing activities. The resolution of a years-long rent dispute with the shipâs landlord cleared the path for the transfer, though final approval from a federal judge is still required. Cleaning, transporting, and submerging the ship is expected to cost over $10 million and take more than 18 months. Built in 1952, the ship holds the transatlantic speed record and once symbolized American engineering might. Its planned transformation into an artificial reef marks the next chapter in a storied but complicated legacy.8

PHILADELPHIA, PA â The Philadelphia Eagles overcame a sluggish start to beat the Cleveland Browns 20-16 on Sunday. Jalen Hurts struggled early, going 0-for-5 in passing, and tight end Dallas Goedert exited with a hamstring injury. A.J. Brownâs second-quarter touchdown briefly gave the Eagles a lead, but a blocked field goal returned for a touchdown left the game tied at 10 at halftime. The offense faltered again in the third quarter, drawing boos from the home crowd. However, Hurts found momentum late in the game, delivering a 45-yard touchdown pass to DeVonta Smith with under eight minutes remaining.
