Coatesville School Bus Struck by Gunfire; Football Game Canceled

COATESVILLE, PA — A school bus carrying students in Coatesville, Chester County, was struck by gunfire on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m., when a bullet pierced the windshield of the bus. Fortunately, no students or the driver were injured. The driver took immediate action, driving the bus to the Westwood Fire Company, where students were safely reunited with their parents.

As a precaution, Thursday evening’s high school football game against Downingtown East was canceled. The Chester County District Attorney’s office confirmed that an active investigation is underway, and no motive has yet been identified. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Coatesville City Police Department.

Defendant Cleared of All Charges in West Chester Courthouse Shooting Case

Vaughn Yanko

WEST CHESTER, PA — Vaughn Yanko, the defendant in a high-profile shooting case at the Chester County Courthouse, was acquitted of all charges after a jury determined that his actions were justified. The shooting, which took place in January 2023, left college basketball player Ivon Bennett with serious injuries. Yanko argued that he acted in self-defense after being attacked by Bennett and his friends during an altercation outside the courthouse.

The jury’s verdict followed a six-day trial that included testimonies from both Yanko and Bennett’s companions, as well as video footage that captured the chaotic scene. Despite the prosecution’s argument that Yanko provoked the confrontation, the jury sided with the defense’s narrative that the shooting was a legitimate act of self-protection.

Early Morning Crash on Route 322 in Honey Brook Claims Life

HONEY BROOK, PA — An early morning crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer in Honey Brook Township claimed the life of a driver on Thursday. The accident, which occurred around 4 a.m. on Route 322, left the driver of the car trapped inside the vehicle with severe damage to the front end. Emergency crews extracted the driver, but despite being rushed to the hospital, the individual succumbed to their injuries.

The collision led to the temporary closure of Route 322 between North Birdell and Cambridge roads as authorities worked to clear the scene and investigate the circumstances of the crash. The road has since been reopened, but the incident remains under investigation as officials seek to understand what caused the fatal collision.
