Uwchlan Man Found Guilty of Assault in Violent Confrontation with Neighbor

A wooden gavel.

EXTON, PA — Glen Phillips, a resident of Uwchlan Township, was convicted on multiple charges including aggravated assault and assault with a deadly weapon after a violent confrontation with his neighbor, Charles Oswald. The dispute, which revolved around a fence and trees separating their properties, had simmered for years. Phillips claimed self-defense, stating that he was forced to act after Oswald confronted him at his home and punched him. While the jury found his actions unjustified, they acquitted him of attempted murder, suggesting that they did not believe he intended to kill Oswald. The altercation left Oswald seriously injured and Phillips now awaits sentencing, facing the possibility of years in state prison.

Jury Finds Man Guilty in Violent Shooting Over Supermarket Dispute

COATESVILLE, PA — A Chester County jury has convicted 28-year-old Moenell Coleman of multiple charges, including attempted homicide, following a shooting that began as a minor dispute at a grocery store. Coleman was found guilty after an incident in January 2022, when a woman accidentally bumped into him at a Coatesville supermarket. Angered by the encounter, Coleman followed the woman to her home and fired several shots, injuring her and her brother.

The jury’s decision, reached in less than two hours, was based on extensive evidence including video footage and witness testimony. The case against Coleman included tracking data and testimony from the victims, who detailed the frightening sequence of events. After a multi-state manhunt, Coleman was arrested and has been held in custody since. With the conviction, he faces the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence.

Enjoy Local Brews While Supporting a Good Cause at Downingtown Library Fundraiser

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — The 6th annual D-town Brew-Down, a community favorite that blends craft beer with charity, will take place on October 26 at Minquas Fire Company in Downingtown. The event, benefiting the Downingtown Library, will feature a selection of high-quality, home-brewed beers judged by professionals, with cash prizes for top brews.

Funds raised at the Brew-Down play a vital role in supporting the library’s mission to serve more than 44,000 Chester County residents. As demand for its services and programs—especially those for children—continues to grow, the library aims to expand its staff and physical space to accommodate the community’s needs. While funding from state and local governments provides a foundation, additional support is necessary to ensure the library can continue to thrive.

Attendees can enjoy the festivities by choosing from several ticket options, including a VIP experience for those seeking a premium tasting opportunity. All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly toward enhancing library services. More info at their website here.
