Bridge Replacement Set to Disrupt Traffic on Brandywine Avenue in Downingtown

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — PennDOT will launch a $13.3 million project to replace the aging Boot Road bridge over Amtrak in East Caln Township, starting October 7. The bridge, originally built 59 years ago, will be replaced by a shorter, single-span structure, while the surrounding roadway will be resurfaced and modified. The new design aims to improve safety and accommodate modern standards.

Weekday lane closures on U.S. 322 (Brandywine Avenue) are expected from October 7 through October 23, between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, to install clearance signs and make preliminary adjustments. Drivers are encouraged to plan for additional travel time due to likely delays.

Further construction at the Boot Road and Quarry Road intersection will add turn lanes and upgrade traffic signals to reduce congestion and improve safety. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by mid-2025 and is fully funded by the state. H&K Group, Inc. of Montgomery County will handle the construction.

PECO Enhances Tree Management in Chester County to Prevent Power Outages

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — PECO is taking a proactive stance to minimize power outages caused by falling branches and uprooted trees in Chester County through an extensive vegetation management program. By investing over $2 million this year alone, PECO aims to prevent the type of service disruptions that affected over 100,000 customers during severe storms in July.

In addition to managing vegetation around power lines, PECO is committed to environmental stewardship. Through its ReLeaf Program, the company supports tree planting and maintenance initiatives, including partnerships with local organizations like the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society. PECO plants a new tree for every one removed during maintenance, helping to preserve the region’s green canopy.

Commissioners Launch ‘Innovate Chester County’ to Tackle Community Challenges

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County Commissioners are calling on residents to participate in a new initiative aimed at tackling some of the county’s most pressing issues. Named Innovate Chester County, the program invites volunteers to join workgroups that will brainstorm solutions for challenges related to affordable housing, public transportation, children’s mental health, veteran services, and agriculture.

Each workgroup will consist of around 20 members from various professional and personal backgrounds, ensuring a broad range of perspectives. The initiative will be overseen by a steering committee of local leaders in business, law, and education, who will offer guidance and strategic direction. The Commissioners hope the workgroups will help generate fresh ideas and strengthen partnerships across public and private sectors.

Residents who wish to get involved can apply through the county’s website until October 18, 2024. The project is part of the Commissioners’ broader effort to engage the community in shaping the future of Chester County and to establish the county as a center for innovation and collaboration.
