Across the Atlantic: Downingtown Forms Sister City Relationship with Bradninch in the UK

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Downingtown has formed a sister city relationship with Bradninch, a small town in the UK where Thomas Downing II, the town’s namesake, once resided before settling in America. This connection, initiated by East Brandywine Township resident Ryan Roe, is a tribute to shared history and a celebration of new ties between the two communities.

During a visit to Bradninch in August, Roe was welcomed by local leaders and residents. He took in the historic charm of the village, experiencing British culture firsthand. The “Sister City Agreement” was signed by both towns, aiming to foster cooperation in social, cultural, and educational activities. Roe presented gifts, including a print depicting Downing’s log cabin and a Phillies pennant, marking the beginning of a new chapter in Downingtown’s history. This partnership promises to build bridges through a shared past and future collaborations. See Ryan’s story and more photos on his Facebook page.

Art and History Converge at Chester County History Center’s Fall Gallery Walk

WEST CHESTER, PA — The Chester County History Center is joining forces with the Chester County Art Association to host this year’s West Chester Fall Gallery Walk, an event designed to bring the community closer to local art and history. Scheduled for Friday, October 4th, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., the evening will showcase the work of two prominent local artists, Cary Galbraith and Theresa Groff.

Attendees will have the opportunity to view the artists’ works in the gallery spaces of the History Center, a venue that blends contemporary art with historical significance. This collaboration offers a unique setting for visitors to explore the narratives behind each piece, as both Galbraith and Groff will be present to discuss their creative journeys.

Keva Flats Invests in Exton’s Future with Floodplain Restoration Project

EXTON, PA — The Hankin Group’s Keva Flats project in Exton is redefining what it means to build in harmony with nature. Alongside the construction of Phase II of its luxury apartment complex, the company has embarked on a $2.4 million floodplain restoration project in the Lionville Run stream channel. This restoration, expected to conclude by the end of 2024, aims to improve stormwater management, enhance floodplain resilience, and restore native vegetation.

For the community, the restoration means cleaner water, reduced flooding, and an enriched habitat for local wildlife. By pulling 50,000 pounds of sediment from the stream annually, the project will also generate valuable environmental credits for West Whiteland Township. Meanwhile, the initiative lessens the burden of stormwater management for local developers, making future projects more feasible and cost-effective.
