Corrections Officer Pleads Guilty in Chester County Break-In Case
WEST CHESTER, PA — David Spencer, a corrections officer from Montgomery County, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges after entering his ex-girlfriend's Chester County home and causing significant damage while she was away on vacation. The incident occurred last August, shortly after the couple ended their relationship. In a plea agreement, Spencer will serve three years of probation, attend domestic violence classes, and undergo substance abuse and mental health evaluations. He is also required to pay over $7,000 in restitution to the victim. Despite her trauma and concerns for safety, the victim agreed to the plea deal, which spares Spencer jail time. Judge Patrick Carmody issued a stern warning that any violations of the no-contact order would result in immediate imprisonment.
Chester County Parks Increase Patrols After Spike in Car Break-Ins
EAST CALN TWP — Chester County Parks and Preservation has issued a warning to visitors after a recent increase in smash-and-grab thefts in parking areas. The incidents involve criminals breaking into parked vehicles and stealing valuables left inside, often targeting items stored in the glovebox or trunk. In response, park rangers have intensified their patrols and surveillance efforts to deter further crimes. Visitors are being strongly advised not to leave any belongings in their vehicles, no matter how well-hidden, as thieves have targeted these areas consistently. If suspicious activity is noticed or a vehicle is broken into, officials ask the public to contact the police immediately.
Park Rangers in Chester County Now Certified to Handle Medical Emergencies
WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County Parks and Preservation has bolstered its commitment to visitor safety by ensuring that all full-time park rangers are now certified Emergency Medical Responders (EMR). This certification, provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Health, includes classroom instruction, CPR training, and passing both written and practical exams. In addition to this milestone, three rangers—John Conlow, Vicki Rhine, and Dustin Wolf—have advanced their qualifications, becoming fully certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) through more comprehensive medical training.
With these enhanced capabilities, park officials remind the public that in case of a medical emergency within the parks or along trails, calling 9-1-1 is the most effective way to connect with a local ranger.
Mummers Band Headlines 2024 West Chester Christmas Parade
WEST CHESTER, PA — The Greater West Chester Chamber of Commerce has announced an exciting lineup for the 2024 West Chester Christmas Parade, scheduled for December 6. Leading the celebration is the South Philadelphia String Band, recent champions of the Mummers Parade, along with 12 local high school and university marching bands, including the Downingtown High School Combined Marching Bands and West Chester University’s Golden Rams. The event, which marks West Chester’s 225th anniversary, has been named the “Best Local Parade” and “Best Family-Friendly Event” by Main Line Today readers.
The parade, sponsored by Chester County Hospital, kicks off a month-long holiday celebration. Approximately 20,000 attendees are expected to witness the festivities, which include a 25-foot Christmas tree lighting ceremony and a marching band competition. This year also introduces new categories for the best commercial parade float and nonprofit entry.
