Teen Girl Uncovers Possible Babysitting Scam in Downingtown

EXTON, PA — A 16-year-old girl in Exton is at the center of a police investigation after responding to a suspicious babysitting job offer on Facebook. The teenager, eager to earn extra money, joined a local Facebook group and responded to a post offering generous pay to care for two children. After exchanging messages, she was given an address in Downingtown and asked to help with errands.

Feeling uneasy, she researched the address and discovered the home was vacant and for sale. The homeowners were unaware their property was being used in connection with the post. Police in Uwchlan Township are now investigating the incident as part of a potential online scam, reminding the public to remain cautious when responding to job offers from unfamiliar sources.

Struble Trail Closed for Maintenance Friday

DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Chester County’s Struble Trail will be closed for the entire day on Friday, September 20, due to engineering work. The section of the trail between Dowlin Forge Road and the Shelmire Road parking lot will be closed as a firm carries out core sampling. This procedure is part of an assessment process for the trail’s future maintenance.

PennDOT Announces Temporary Road Closures for Repairs in Caln

CALN TWP — PennDOT has announced that several roads in Caln and West Bradford Townships will be closed from Monday, September 17, through Friday, September 20, for essential base repair work. The affected roads—West Chester Road, Embreeville Road, and Hazelwood Road—will be closed between Romansville Road and Marshallton-Thorndale Road daily from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

To accommodate the closures, traffic will be redirected along Stouff Road, Bailey Road, and Business U.S. 30 (Lincoln Highway). While local residents will still have access to their homes, some delays are expected. PennDOT is urging drivers to allow extra travel time due to possible congestion in the area.

Bike the Brandywine Returns to Chester County on September 21

CHADDS FORD, PA — Cyclists will soon have the opportunity to explore Chester County’s beautiful countryside while supporting local conservation efforts at the sixth annual “Bike the Brandywine” event on Saturday, September 21. Hosted by the Brandywine Conservancy, the event features three routes—25, 45, and 62 miles—that wind through the picturesque Brandywine Creek Greenway and surrounding areas. The longest route, a 62-mile trek, takes riders along the West Branch of the Brandywine Creek, passing through farmland, historic sites, and the equestrian landscapes of Unionville.

All routes begin and end at the Chadds Ford Historical Society, where cyclists can rest and enjoy lunch after the ride. Well-stocked rest stops will be available every 10 to 20 miles, and support from Trek Bicycle Delaware will be on hand throughout the day. Proceeds from the event benefit the Brandywine Conservancy’s initiatives to preserve clean water and open spaces in the region. The ride is open to all experience levels and will be held rain or shine. More info at BikeTheBrandywine.org

Short-Term Rentals, Transportation, and Event Fees Discussed at West Chester Boro Council Meeting

WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester Borough Council continued discussions on regulating short-term rentals, setting a cap of 20 units borough-wide and limiting them to the Town Center district. The council also addressed transportation planning, flood control for a new apartment complex, and a new flat parking fee for events. A final vote on the rental regulations is expected next month.
