Residents on Alert After Report of Fake Police Stop in Upper Oxford Township
UPPER OXFORD TWP — Chester County officials are alerting residents about a recent incident on Route 1 in Upper Oxford Township involving a police impersonator. On the morning of September 13, a driver reported being followed for several miles by a black Cadillac Escalade, which then activated a red and blue light and a siren, resembling a police vehicle. The suspect, described as a heavy-set man in his 40s or 50s wearing a police-style uniform, pulled the driver over before the victim realized something was amiss. This incident has raised concerns among locals about safety on the roads.
To protect themselves, authorities advise drivers to remain calm and proceed to a well-lit, busy area if they suspect an impersonation attempt. They also recommend calling 911 to verify the legitimacy of the officer. The Pennsylvania State Police are continuing their investigation and urge anyone with relevant information to contact the Avondale Station Criminal Investigation Unit.
History Brought to Life at Battle of Brandywine Reenactment
CHADDS FORD, PA — At the Chadds Ford Historical Society, history enthusiasts gathered for a two-day reenactment of the 1777 Battle of Brandywine, one of the most significant conflicts of the American Revolution. More than 150 volunteers dressed in period-appropriate attire recreated the battle, with British troops winning on Saturday, followed by an American victory on Sunday. Over 2,000 visitors experienced the dramatic sights and sounds of muskets and cannons, along with camp followers who cooked and lived as they would have during the war.
Organizers stressed the importance of preserving the area's rich Revolutionary War history and educating the public. The weekend offered a range of interactive activities, from candle-making to pewter smithing, reflecting the society’s goal to provide a more immersive and historically accurate experience.
West Chester Police to Receive New Body Cameras with State Grant
WEST CHESTER, PA — The West Chester Police Department has been awarded a $250,000 grant to purchase new body cameras and in-car video systems for its officers, a move aimed at enhancing transparency and accountability. Announced by state Senator Carolyn Comitta and Representative Chris Pielli, the funding comes from the Pennsylvania Local Law Enforcement Support Grant Program, backed by federal resources. The grant will cover a portion of the $500,000 to $600,000 needed for the upgrade, which will replace equipment first introduced in 2020 that is now nearing the end of its life cycle.
The new technology is expected to improve police operations and foster trust between the department and the community. The initiative is part of a wider rollout of body-worn cameras across Pennsylvania, including efforts by the State Police and other law enforcement agencies.
New Turn-Taking System Installed at Uwchlan Township Pickleball Courts
UWCHLAN TWP — Pickleball players in Uwchlan Township can now enjoy a more organized system for taking turns at the local courts. The township has installed paddle holders at both Ted Gacomis Senior Park courts and the court on Wharton Boulevard. This new feature allows players to place their paddles in a designated holder and slide a metal marker to indicate their position in the queue, helping to simplify the process of determining who plays next.
With pickleball continuing to grow in popularity across the country, this improvement aims to make the game more accessible and enjoyable for all. By reducing confusion and wait times, the new system provides a welcoming environment for both experienced players and those new to the sport.
West Chester University Names Basketball Court After Legendary Coaches
WEST CHESTER, PA — West Chester University has paid tribute to two of its most successful basketball coaches by renaming the court at Hollinger Fieldhouse in their honor. Now called Kane Delaney Court, the newly designed court celebrates the careers of Deirdre Kane, who coached the women's team to 447 wins over 27 years, and Dick Delaney, who led the men's team to 370 victories in 21 seasons.
The dedication ceremony was attended by more than 300 alumni, friends, and former players, reflecting the strong sense of community and pride associated with both coaches’ tenures. Kane and Delaney are remembered not only for their impressive records but also for their commitment to mentorship and sportsmanship. The updated court is a fitting tribute to their legacy and an inspiration for future generations of players. The men's basketball team will have its first home game on the newly named court on November 16, followed by the women's team on November 18.
